Soon to be owner

Evening all , so I’ve been browsing this goodly forum for a while now , trying to decide wether it’s a good or bad (financial) idea to buy a d4 , well now the decision has been made ... I am going to look at my first d4 in the morning ,hopefully all be well but I’ve never even driven one before ( used to a transit van ) Very Happy ,so has any good souls got any tips to help me navigate a private sale , the car in question has done 60k with full service history by main dealer or franchise and last 3 mots have not shown any advisories so I’ve got my fingers and eyes crossed , I will also be looking at putting a warranty in place ,ps sorry for the long post Very Happy

if you test drive it, make sure "low box" and HDC work without any strange noises. Look for uneven tyre wear.

Welcome to the club! As with any purchase take your time, press every button and make sure all works as it should. If you have no previous experience of LR D3/D4, don't be scared to play with the suspension settings. It really is very simple despite seeing it for the first time, ditto for the off road settings.

You can't damage it by shifting the different suspension modes, just give it a minute or so to react fully before pushing the next command. Unless you're off road, you won't really notice anything by changing the off road settings, but change them for the craic anyway! You'll hear a bong as you go through all these changes which is normal. If there's an issue it will be flagged in the driver information window between the tacho and speedo.
The drive should be quiet without any knocks or rattles, and power should make you smile with absolutely no warning lights on the dash. As Hardware17 says look carefully for tyre ware as this could be a sign of trouble ahead. Most importantly enjoy the experience, absolute cracking machine, good luck tomorrow and let us know how you get on.

If it’s a private sale make sure you do the deal inside the house that’s shown on the logbook..sounds mad but so many people meet at train stations, service stations etc when buying the car and end up as a victim...

See the transaction as a loan of money.... can you find the seller if it all goes wrong.....

Other than that enjoy the day! Very Happy

At least here it’s automatically a dealer sale if the sale happens on premises (sounds like yours is an on consignment sale, actually) and subject to normal consumer protections laws.

Ah well Sad the search goes on , the first car we went to look at a 2012 hse :- drove well and seemed mechanically ok, had f.s.h from a franchised dealer ,but there was a few scuffs and scratches , one of the alloys was all chewed , a slight crack in the bumper near said alloy , a loose headlamp unit and not much tread on 3 out of 4 tyres and one rear tyre with uneven wear , also a few niggly bits inside , so decided to pass on this one.
The second car a 2011 hse was in a lot better cosmetic condition , nice alloys , plenty tread etc , lovely beige interior ,but sadly only part service history , so today was not to be , but on the bright side I am now a little more wiser than before ( on discovery’s anyway ) Laughing

Sorry those two didn't work out for you

But, as others have said, take your time in spending your hard earned, you will soon get used to owning a brilliant car and being a pauper Laughing
