Spare tyre cable jammed
I'm trying to put my spare back up in the spare tyre well (I've had it out for a few weeks). However, when I try to winch out the cable, it jams about halfway.
Looking under the car, there's a fair bit of mud around the outside casing of the cable, so chances are that there's a fair bit inside it too
Anyone try to take the housing and cable guide off before? Or have a similar problem?

Mine gets tight on release with no weight on it, maybe it tangles in the drum, I found geting someone to pull
it down when you wind it down helps, also if it jams wind up a bit then down this helps.
But you could have it full of mud as you say, try hoseing it with water if there is eney to spair.
All else fails pull it apart and we might all learn something

Just had a new winch thingy fitted under warranty, mine jammed when lifting the cable off the ground without a tyre (to move the car on the drive).

I only put my spare back under the vehicle this morning as I got a puncture on Monday and that tyre has been in the boot since then. The only thing I had to do was every few turns of the winding mechanism I had to pull the cable down a bit but other than that no problems.
I left the punctured tyre in the boot as I was supposed to be having 2 new tyres on Friday, but they wont arrive until Monday or Tuesday.1996 Discovery 1 300TDI ES Biarritz Blue, sold

Well, the cable housing unit came out pretty easily. The housing itself is one-piece, but I sprayed some lubricant in the cable ingress point, hooked up the cable to a heavy object ( = the back of the car) and slowly winched it out.
There was one small kink mark in the cable. The screw had come out of the cable-guide on the end of the housing, which might have contributed. All back together now and the spare tyre is back where it should('nt) be
