What an absolute faff it is to lower the spare wheel - empty the load area out onto the rain/road/mud/hard shoulder, drag out the mat, tip up both seats - and all just to get to the winder!
We get all sorts of electric drives for things we can do easily by hand - windows, mirrors, ratio change, even hand brake - but the one thing where we could make good use of an electric drive, it is not just manual, but bl dy awkward to get to. One can't even fit a permanent short extension to the drive as it would foul on the seat pivot.
So here is the challenge - design, and if possible make, an alternative drive for the spare wheel winch. There is a huge empty space above the rear differential that could accommodate it, but feel free to do it any way you choose - just make it work! Think oithers have done it easily with a stubby 1/4" socket set & some gaffa tape. Just about fits through the seats when they are down Bodsys Brake Bible
With DOWN and UP positions! And a nice LED warning light at the very least!!A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Stay Alive - KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE.

would the extension "sockets" used by us caravanners to fit the cordless drill to wind up the legs fit (as these have a small, narrow shaft on them)? I'd try it but mine's in the caravan.

Even if they had just put a crank handle typr hole through the rear bumper or in where the towing elecs go. At least you wouldn't have to empty the contents of the boot out wherever you are changing a wheel.
Wonder what LR would say if there was a 50 car pile up caused, due to the fact that someone has 4 or 5 working dogs in the boot area, in a dog cage. How do you hold the dogs, remove the gear and cage from boot area, meanwhile one dog has slipped it's lead and cause carnage on the M/way.
All because some ninnie at LR design hadn't put any thought into it. ATB
