Spare wheel access

Here is a simple and low-cost way to lower and raise the spare wheel without having to empty the load area, drag out the rubber mat, and fold the seats upwards.

What I used was a 22mm 1/2" drive socket, a converter to 1/4" drive, and a short extension :-

This is how it fits together in place :-

And this is how it is used:-

If you have the rubber mat it can be flapped back a couple of inches. The 1/4" drive you use would depend on what you had in your toolbox.

I found a source for a 22mm 1/4" drive socket, but it was £12 dearer then doing it this way. They don't need to be high quality chrome vanadium as not a great deal of effort is needed to turn the cable winch. In fact, the less effort put onto the winch drive the better! Whistle

The 1/4" drive extension length was selected so it sits just below the level of the carpet. There it fits snugly between the two seat sides.

I'm on the lookout for a spare cover to punch a wee hole into. Not many breakers around here to get one cheap.
