After a load of local D3 owners having there spare wheels stolen i decided today that i would remove mine from below the car. I can remember reading somewhere on the site about somebody putting a bit of tube to cover the wire that holds the wheel in place, so as it can't be cut, can't find it now so any suggestions of what sort of pipe to use would be grateful as the dog is getting off sharing the boot with the spare wheel. cheers If in doubt............flat out.

Need a dry day to measure up under mine, but was thinking larger the diameter the better, piece of metal pipe split to slide over cable, rubber sleeve (shrink wrap ?) over the ends. Then clamp it to close the gap. Replace spare and free spinning pipe should make it very hard to cut. Or I did consider a motorbike lock looped through chassis but you can bet that the lock would get covered in "To finish first, one first has to finish ...."

It's only a bit of split tube Other option would be do dismantle the winch mechanism, cable and thead the tube onto the cable - more work "To finish first, one first has to finish ...."

Judging by the ones that have been replaced due to rewinding without a spare on them, I am not too willing to start trying to take mine to bits. Split tube for me, clamped to reduce diameter. JD "To finish first, one first has to finish ...."
