I'm sure I'm not alone in this, but noticed yesterday that my full size spare has gone, always figured it was vulnerable. Just wondered what others would recommend, I'm tempted to not bother replacing (tyre kit), but if I do is there any way of making it more secure?

Get an RLD wheel protector.
Contact RLD on the forum.

Not the first & no way will you be the last. Get a plate from Uncle Ray aka RLD, as well as te new more secure winch.

Was wondering whether it's worth bothering, maybe a space saver or a kit? Anyone got a link to RLD?

Look him up in the sponsors section or just search 'protector'

Second the rld protector. Simple but very effective. I also have a couple of new 19" hse wheels for sale if you choose to replace.

Just fitted a brand new winter tyre to my spare wheel this morning.
And then fitted the RLD protector with it. Super secure.
Incidentally, I took the spare off and tied the winch to the chasis last night. Winched it up this morning with the spare and no problems. No kinks or struggle with the winch mechanism.

I also have Rays RLD protector on both my Discos - I can sleep easy and also park in the dreaded Bluewater car parks without fear of spare wheel theiving c s relieving me of my property. Massive for RLD, You won't regret it and tbh, would you really want a space saver on a 3 tonne car? My17 Volvo XC90 Inscription

I take your point Steve, but I'm contemplating a get me home kit instead. My car is on 20 inch Overfinch Olympus wheels, like for like is frightening, once I've factored in a new winch and a protector I'm left wondering if it's worth it.

Fair point Blue but what if the "Get me home kit" doesn't? (Get you home?) I bought a set of take offs for my D4 on ebay for £150 each. There are deals to be had. I personally, wouldn't drive my daughters Mini on a space saver, let alone a vehicle like yours/ours. Chances are, you'd be fine but there's always the "What if?" factor. Would I drive a car with a space saver with my family in it? I think you can see where this is going..... Not trying to be a harbinger of doom, just trying to minimise the risk to you and your familys safety mate.
Hope you get it sorted and ebay is definitely worth a search for a replacement wheel IMHO

On another point, please allow me to share this:
I had a serious motorcycle accident five + years ago. Although I was wearing a jacket with a back protector in it, the peurpose made, proper heavy duty back protector was left hanging up in the office. I broke my back in five places and sustained another seven broken bones including ribs, wrist and shoulder. My point is, had I been wearing the other back protector, I may well have still broken my back but now I'll never know for sure. For the sake of 2 minutes putting it on the outcome may have been very different. I agree a new wheel, tyre, winch and wheel protector is expensive but for the sake of £1500?? is it worth risking something rather more serious. The view from a wheelchair has got tedious this last five years..... I'm just saying!
Either way, I hope you get it sorted man ..... and that the thief gets run over by tractor!!! My17 Volvo XC90 Inscription
