Spares and tools for a trip to remote places

I'm packing my discovery 3 for a trip to remote areas.
Main concern is to have the spares/tools available for the worst case situation of an issue/breakdown in such an area, given the fact that we will be travelling independently in one vehicle.

Based on my experiences with the discovery 3 and searching for most common faults/fixes I currently have the following list

spares:
- fuel filter
- engine oil
- automatic transmission oil
- differential oil
- transferbox oil
- spare compressor for the suspension
- spare generator
- tubes and fittings for the suspension
- bulbs incl. the Xenon DS2
- 2nd spare tire
- air filter

Special tools (considering an extensive set of 1/2" // 1/4" wrench/sockets, spanners etc. available)
- 36mm spanner (fan)
- viscous fan holding tool
- small pump / brake bleeder
- iiD tool
- workshop manual
- 2nd battery / jump starter

Still not sure, if a spare starter would make sense (seems unlilekly to fail, but no chance to start the engine otherwise with these new auto transmission)

Anyone to comment / add to this list is very welcome!

thanks and regards

Ueli

How long the you going for !!!!

I wouldn’t bother with Tx box oil.
You can use diff oil in an emergency.

Make sure you have torx. T25 T30

And a good jack and a brake light switch Thumbs Up

If you're going on a long and remote trip and haven't changed the alternator (generator) since you've had the car, I'd just change it before you go rather than take a spare with you. They'll go eventually, and whilst not a pain to change, it means you don't need to take the belt tool thingy.

If you haven't changed the rear door switch, I'd take one of those as well together with the tools you need (things to pry out the trim).

Def a brake switch. I'd ditch the other oils less engine oil.

You shouldn't need an air filter if it's new, unless going into the desert. You can always tap it out if it gets really dusty.

I'd suggest taking an inner tube rather than a second spare, and the tools to remove a tire and re-inflate.

In my experience of being in the desert it's almost impossible to prevent punctures if hitting sharp stones. In the end we just placed inner tubes into the tires and never had a problem after that. (The safety policy will say you can't do it and it's dangerous, blah; never had a problem, nor anyone I know).

thanks for all your comments.

@ Pete K:
planning trips of 2-3 weeks (Services to be done before the trip). Will make sure, not to forget the Torx

@M3DPO
removed the standard jack last weekend. will take the high lift jack (with lift mate) and some axle stands along)
Haven't had issues with the brake light switch so far, but will certainly take a look.

@grzesiul
replaced the front bearings some 60tsd km ago. I dont expect them to fail within a 3 weeks holiday. I havent thought of the sensors (rather the valves, but too many different ones to take them along). I guess if sensors brake (mechanicaly), they should be easy fix temporarily. Or is it realy the sensor that fail?

@pagoda
alternator was replaced some 30tsd km's ago. But I read, that they might fail in water crossings? Doesn't seem to be the most sturdiest part on the disco.
Pity I didn't think of the tail gate Switch when I fitted the the ladder to the roof rack, would have been an easy one. Good idea to take a spare one.
Regarding the tubes, I followed the same philosophy on my last trips, but now with a roof rack, I enjoy the luxury of a second spare wheel.

Fault code reader.

Also is there a thingy I have seen that overrides the air suspension settings so that you can force it into modes, important if you have a general failure meaning the car drops so gets stuck or cant be recovered.

Where is this remote place? Is it likely to have mobile coverage/phone service?
