And my own use of satnavs, isn't it about time that car manufacturers offered a premium spec car (say HSE level) with the option to "turn off" the included satnav?
I find myself using it less and less often and have become "familiar" with my phone satnav which:
1. is common across all my cars
2. updates itself without any intervention from me
3. links to my watch so I get haptic feedback - useful when the stereo (or SWMBO) up at a banging volume
Even in my 2018MY Lexus with the superb 10" screen - I don't use the satnav anymore.
And who wants to pay the £300 upgrade disk fees?
Time for a rethink manufacturers and give us something else instead?D3 07 SE - still going strong
D3 07 HSE - gone to car heaven
FL1 - gone to Romania
D3 05 HSE - gone to a divorce diet
D1 V8 manual - gone but not forgotten
RR Classic - gone to car heaven
Jeeps, Lexus, X-trails... Too many to name..

Do you not think that the links to tech companies is not that step in the direction?
More people would prefer to not pay £100's/£1000's as an option and use the aftermarket tech if they had a choice so manufacturers won't want to lose that revenue so 'integrating' it enables prices to be maintained?
If I had a choice I wouldn't pay for it if it was an option as a £100 Tom-Tom is 'better' in many ways. I liked the fact my D3 XS didn't have it and I got the useful cubby space instead with the TT stuck on the windscreen.
Can't imagine you'd sell many FFRR, RRS or D5's without it with a 'luxury' tag applied to the models - the people now expect

I had a D3 HSE and ripped out the nav and replaced it with an ipad holder myself - the off road maps from O/S being much more useful.

Forget deleting satnav, i wish they didn't bother with sunroofs. I never use them, adds extra things to rattle and they just plain leak.

Things like Apple Car Play are becoming more popular so in theory you get best of both worlds, a good screen but linked to your choice of Apps. Only limitation I found so far is that only Apple Apps work through it though (so Google Maps doesn't). I'm sure this is the future direction it will go, all connected via 4g rather than holding on-board data.
My in-car sat nav is rubbish compared to Google Maps where I can search for a place by name etc and it takes me to the door not the street with the matching postcode. However, I like the bigger screen in the car and the 2d 'plan view' comes in very handy compared to the 3D zoom on say a TomTom as you can zoom out and spot alterntive routes with the more detailed overhead type view.

Totally agree, I’m very happy with the TomTom stuck on my windscreen D4 GS 12MY

Some people are quite unhappy with tomtom since lifetime meant only 3 years of updates...

So still cheaper than an update disc even if you threw it away every three years...
I’ve got sat navs years out of date and still cover 99.99% usage

another reason i bought the base model , no sunroof to worry about , then just adding what i knew i would actually use , retro fitted cruise and front electric seats
happy with my tom tom ( until they decided lifetime maps doesn’t mean lifetime ) but at least can keep right up to date , vs built in sat navs as they become older and can’t get the increasingly expensive upto date discs
even better when i found out the ins was cheaper not having the extra HSE mods
know when specifying options on a new car it can very quickly add up
GS D4 here, needless to say I've added all the bits needed, black pack grille and vents, heated seats, heated wheel, Cruise, Xenons auto lights & wipers, FBH controller & enabled timed climate got Phillips led DRL Figs to add

Surely resale ids a consideration without SAT NAV I would not stock it. You don't have to use it after all.

My truck came with an Dealer Fit Pioneer Sat Nav/Media unit and takes both Android Auto (and an unused Apple Carplay) - much as I like Google Maps, the standard Sat Nav unit is still better as it gives useful stuff like GPS driven MPH readout - most useful in Average Speed Camera stretches
Plus I can do this through Mirrorlink
