Special Programs Not Available

Hi,
I am in a bit of a pickle (never before said by a Landrover owner) and I am looking for some advice or just reassurance please. I have a 2008 D3 and I am heading away to France on the 12th of July for a month to our caravan near Bordeaux and everything was going well when last night, Special Programs Not Available came up on the screen. I took it to a local mechanic to check the diagnostics on it and the code P0666 is coming up. Powertrain Control Module/ Engine Control Module/ Transmission Control Module Internal Temperature Sensor Circuit.
I will be driving about 800km on the France side, parking up for nearly the whole month apart from the odd supermarket food runs and then the same 800km run back a month later.
Can anything be done before I go, or is it too late, or will it be ok, or do I need to re-mortgage to pay for the repairs.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Was it just as you started the car if so your battery may be on its way out if it is the original battery then change it these cars throw all sorts of lights with batteries on the way out Thumbs Up

Totally agree. If it is on start up then they are failed comms messages. Battery needs a charge or it is on its way out. Maybe time for a new battery if you want piece of mind while in France

Thanks Steve17, geoffsnook and Mr Kington for the info. As for water in the engine bay area, it hasn't rained here in over two months so id say that is ruled out even though I did have a look last night but it is as dry as a bone. It is still the original battery in the disco so maybe that could be throwing up the faults as you say. When you start her up she pings and then the message comes up about the special programs unavailable, which then stays on the screen whilst I am driving, as in the information area of the screen.

If it was me, i would put the battery on charge / re -condition cycle if you can. The do a hard re-set. Give it a few days to see how it goes. If it is an old battery then it may be prudent to get a new one off Tanya. next day delivery and well priced also.

When my battery was getting tired i had all the failed comms (to be fair it only ever happened when it was very cold and the battery had to work harder) but the messages would disappear when driving.

Little odd that yours are staying on for longer ?

Yesterday whilst out driving I realised that the warning for the special programs didn't show up on the screen when I started the old girl up. This morning my new battery arrived from Tayna so its fitted and all and I did a Hard Reset just to be sure to be sure. So who knows what will happen between now and Thursday when we leave for our month in France. Here's hoping its a smooth run from Cork to Hourtin-Plage. Wish me luck. Thanks for all your help by the way and I'm sure I will need some more, some day soon but for now Au revoir.

The new battery should take care of that, but order a brake switch and keep it in your truck, just in case its that.
