On the previous D4 saw 118Mph on the speedo (with 265/50x20 tyres). The car sort of went dead at that point, feeling as though it could go quicker but wouldnt. OK, calm day but it wasnt too scary, not like I was hanging on for grim death. I think I was scaring the bejasus out of other road users though - they'd never seen a shed at that speed before.

Unfortunately a modern V8 - kind of a quiet sawing machine when using the pedal softly.
But if you go through tough offroad passages and push the pedal - people are turning around. Discovery 4/LR4 HSE 5.0 V8 MY2010 // Volvo XC60 II T8 Inscription Fusion Red MY2020 // Hyundai Kona Electric Trend MY2020 // Bürstner TravelVan 620G MY2020

where's dsl with his thread resurrection picture when we need him ?
so … you got a vehicle with the aerodynamics of a house brick (but much heavier) to do 120mph and you're disappointed ?
laws of physics methinks … Dolomite Sprints (equally aerodynamic ) could do 115 in 3 different gears but the air wouldn't let them through it any quicker than that !
I put temporary go faster strips on.

The official max speeds I was told when I worked at Gaydon, for the D3 was, Diesel speed limited to 112mph and 120mph for petrol ,basically driven by marketing requirement. My own vehicles would hit an indicated 115mph in 6th and 5th, just over 100mph in 4th

At least it's not a diesel. Can you imagine the fun and games if the crank let go at 120mph? Now that would make for interesting dashcam footage, pref with sound = on.
Whilst some way short of 120, but 'slightly' in excess of 70 ( ), there were no real dramas when my crankshaft let go on the outside lane of the M74Currently 2009 Disco 3 SE and 2013 MY D4 HSE

S'pose all the safety stuff, DSC, ABS, and anything else with a 3 letter acronym apart from EGRs, would be kicking in to protect the squishy bit behind the steering wheel.

Not really
I felt it 'going' and knocked the gear lever into neutral, then coasted across the lanes to the hard shoulder.
Maybe I was lucky but, as the crank had snapped, it was possible for D-Mikey to turn the crankshaft pulley at the front of the block without turning the output shaft at all once we got it to his workshop.Currently 2009 Disco 3 SE and 2013 MY D4 HSE

Not sure I'd have had the presence of mind to knock it into N. I did have an old (well 4 years old at the time) D3 completely die & shut down on the M6 pulling up to Shap on the M6. Was in lane 1 and just dead-sticked it onto the hard shoulder. Stood there freezing my wot-nots off for an hour til the RAC contractor turned up. Then she just started and I could swear she was laughing at me.
