squeak / squeal from dash air vent - fan speed related

Hi All.

I am getting a squeaking/squealing from the passenger dash air vent on my D4. It only happens when the fan is running at anything other than low speed. Turn down the fan it dissapears, turn up the fan it re-appears. Sounds like a squeaky wheel on a shopping trolly.

It only seems to come from the passenger vent, in the dash by the door. (Not 100% sure on this, maybe need to open the other vents more and may hear it too).

It comes and goes, so have not had the chance to track it down properly. Thought I'd ask here first....

Any ideas before I investigate further ?

thx

Might be leaves or other debris in the Fan box. Pop out the micro filter and see if its clean in there. If it is try a squirt of spray oil on the motor. Worst case scenario is a new blower motor, but unlikely.

Behind the glove box, you need to drop down the door to access the filter compartment.
Actually, this might help

Nothing obvious in the blower box. However, after removing and re-seating the filter, the squeek has not re-occurred (yet).

I'm sure it will come back though, How would I go about oiling the fan ?

You can only try to get at the bearings with a can of spray which is not that easy due to the casing. That said, let's see how it goes for a while before you delve into it any deeper. There is also a slim possibility that some leaves or other debris has gathered on the intake side of the fan. This involves removing the wiper arms and scuttle cover to investigate. Again, I would wait and see how things progress first as its quite rare for anything obstructive to get in there, especially if the cabin filter was without any leaf litter or other large debris.
