This should be good....... I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Right, back to your squeeling
When you tow your caravan, the engine has to work harder, therefore generates more heat. The D3 has an engine driven electronically controlled cooling fan. The fan is driven by the serpentine belt that also drives power steering aircon and alternator.
The belt is tensioned by a spring loaded tensioner pulley. These have been known to fail, as have the bearings on aircon pumps.
When the engine is hot, the fan takes more power, and puts more strain on the belt and its componenents.
My money is on a problem with the belt, tensioner or related components.
Now about those jump leads.............................

Squeal
Has a problem like this on my 06D3. Intermitent and dissipeared when brake applied but noise only there when car warmed up. After test drive w mechanic (when car perfored well by demonstrating fault for once) turned out to be a stuck brake caliper; repaired and resolved. Does foot brake application influence the squeal? Didn't hear mine at m-way speed either as too much ambient noise.
Good luck.Disco4, BMW1200RT,

Thanks all for your feed back - the braking doesn t look to make the problem worse and since my caravan was removed at the weekend I havent heard a thing. That said I hadnt heard it for a week prior to that coz hadnt been towing. Lots of things to look at but I guess its to techie for me...Perhaps i need an expert unless someone can point me inthe right direction. I know where the wheels are.....

Good luck.
Just what I experienced, It takes a while before the Sqeak Squeak Squeak appears, and was speed related, and you can inhibit it by moving the steering left to right, or get rid of it by just taping the breaks. I changed the front pads, coppersliped the moving parts after a good brake clean, and to be honest the pads on the front were close.
Went to work today no problem @ 0330hrs, and the journey home it started ok, then the SQUEAK started again, so dropped the N/S windows and am unsure whether its front or back, so I repeated the brake pad/copperslip to change to the rears, so will know if I have cured or aggrevated the problem tomorrow. As TFC had serviced mine in April, and he noted one of the N/S pads was wearing quicker than the inner, I suspect that was the problem, gave that caliper/piston and slider a thorough clean n grease.
Whilst the wheels were off I checked CV Boots, wobbled the wheels for bearing play, and checked the EPB drum movement, nowt seems a miss so hopefully, fingers crossed I will get rid of this poxy noise.
Any other things I may of missed would be appreciated if mentioned.

Almost same for me, turned out to be one rear brake pad very very low, well actually there was no pad at all and it was metal on metal, new pads and discs and all fixed.
Also i had alot of brake dust on that wheel as the calliper wasn't retracting as it should, it seemed to stick a bit as it was at the end if its travel.
