it is certain that lr3's air suspension is somehow not dependable, so why no one does consider normal, steel coil suspension? i figure steel coil model with manual transmission, with proper tyres would make a great old fashioned off road vehicle.
i would like to ask experienced lr owners and off road drivers here, their opinions about steel coil lr3.
is it just overshadowed by its air suspension brother?

Valve radios were good too you know......
There are pro's and con's to both, and I reckon a D3 will be dead and burried when a 90 Defender is still going strong, however, my radio has transistors and my D3 has air. I don't think it is worth being a Ludite and 'suffering' for the cause. I would rather drive my D3 than a 90 SWB any day. 8)

The reason there are so few steel sprung D3's around is because it's only available on the most basic model, the 5 seat TDV6. This car is not available with leather, sat nav, 7 seats, phone and ICE pack to name but a few. If you want a few toys the steel springs just aren't an option. If I'd had the option of saving £1250 by not having the air suspension on the SE spec I doubt I would have ticked the box either.

The air suspension (amongst other things obviously) is the main thing that separates the D3 from other 4X4s tho IMHO.....it was always an extravagant aftermarket thing before... 8)
