Steering Column Locked error after fitting new steering lock

I have just changed the keyless steering lock on my D4 and now the car is unusable.
A warning message of “Steering Column Locked” is displayed on the dash and the car switches off if I attempt to start it.
IDTool error code B100D-87 (2F) Column lock authorisation - Bus signal/message failure - missing a message.
Ironically the new steering lock is not engaged.
I have already tried a hard reset to no avail.

My old steering lock was not engaging but there weren’t any confirmed error codes. I tried to book it into Land Rover but they couldn’t fit it in until the end of February. Since an inoperative steering lock is now an MoT failure and could invalidate my insurance I thought I would try a new lock as my old lock worked for 1 cycle (on/off) after hard reset. The cost of the new steering lock is about the same as 1 hour fault investigation by LR. Land Rover told me that the new steering lock would not need to be programmed to the car before I ordered the new lock.

Anyone got any ideas before I rip the new lock out?

I can’t help but I know from old that it’s very hard to remove a locked steering lock so unless someone can tell what needs to be done I’d take it out or make sure it doesn’t lock

It’s not actually locking mechanically (steering wheel can be turned slightly), the BCM thinks it’s locked and shuts down the car.

Been down to my local Independent LR specialist and he has confirmed that the new steering lock does need to be programmed to the car - would have been nice if my local Land Rover main dealer had known this. I have now got it booked in with the independent although he has warned me that a faulty Instrument Pack can give the same symptoms.
I have plugged the old steering lock back in and the car is now running normally. Prior to plugging the old lock back in I gave it a spray inside with electrical contact cleaner, then a dry PTFE spray and hey presto it appears to be functioning normally. So if anyone else has my original symptoms (steering lock not engaging and no error codes/messages), it might be worth taking it off and trying this spray combination before replacing the lock. You will need two new shear bolts to refit the lock - the part number is QRH100030.
