Steering play
On the steering rack there are two bolts just where the column joins the rack. Can either of these be tightened to take up a bit of play on the rack? The top one I have tightened a little, and it has made some difference, but there is still 10-20mm of play (on the top of the steering wheel) Cheers, Phil

Are you sure the play is not in the tie rod ends or steering rack joints

I nipped up the one to the right in the picture a little and the knock has reduced. Don't overtighten as it will destroy your rack. There's a video on youtube showing a guy rebuilding one and you'll see what that nut does.

Thanks guys for the replies.
To update you, I have replaced track rod ends and track rods and it is acceptable now, still a bit of play but at over 200000k I can live with that for now.
Track rod ends I replaced not 30k ago, so surprised to be doing them again so soon.
