2007 Discovery 3 TDV6 XS Auto Lugano Teal

steering possibly?

yesterday my other half drove the discovery and as he pulled up next to me turning into a space it made a noise like a goat being murdered. it seems to drive ok.
this morning i unlocked and with out getting in rocked the steering wheel without starting the engine and it once made the noise now taking the play up there is a knock from about the centre of the car.
it doesn't feel like its in the column uj putting my hand up on it. it doesn't look feel or sound like track rods or ends it does sound central

That's what I was worried about.
Of course my local garage is closed the main dealer is closed and the only one open is emergency only and as it still drive's that is if the steering doesn't jam up.
