Steering wheel judder

Hi

Steering wheel has started to judder quite badly at speeds of 25mph or so, up. Not too bad at all speeds, probably worst at about 35 - 45 mph. It came on quite suddenly.

Also, and perhaps related, I sometimes get a knocking noise when going slowly (15 - 30 mph) over bumps in roads. Sounds like it comes from somewhere under the passenger seat - almost like a loose exhaust pipe banging around.

Does anyone have any suggestions for either or both of these issues? We're talking a '54 plate with 105K miles - which I hope to be selling in a couple of months time - so be nice to keep any costs down!

Should I get the wheels balanced as a fist step? Although not sure why they would suddenly be out.

Thanks

I would, you might have lost a weight, have a look for a clean patch that might reveal where it was Confused The End

Check your front tyres for un-even wear - mine juddered like I dont know what - close inspection revealed a patch worn to canvas on the inner edge Embarassed
Being wide tyres - not allways easy to spot inner edge wear - must admit -they deteriorated dramatically and I dont throw it around

Yep - get the wheels balanced asap Thumbs Up

The knocking over bumps sounds like anti-roll bar bushes that probably need replacing or having a rubber shim fitted to them Thumbs Up

They could also be out of bllance due to mud stuck to the inside of the alloys. Idea
