Steering wheel shake on braking
Was getting very slight sterring wheel shake on the way down to Tunisia, only under braking, nothing significant so just ignored it and thought it might just be the rubbing EPB that TFC fixed at the RV. No issues in Tunisia but on way back it was getting quite bad, esp after a blast up the Autoroute at 85mph and when going round Rouen's slower bypass with lots of stop start traffic. When back in the UK it is still there but now back to almost being slight like at the beginning of the trip. The vibration does seem to be from the front and is less when braking and turning at the same time like on one of the circular autoroute exits. Car was up near max weight as just done a serious vino purchase and with all the Tunisia kit. Will see what it's like once empty today.
Thoughts anyone???

My D2 suffered badly from warped flanges on the hubs. Fixed in the short term by replacing the discs... then they warped to the profile of the flanges (I hope that makes sense)... then back came the wobble... new disccs.... Only thing that fixed it was a new hub unit. Could be the same?2020 SDV6 D5 HSE, Carpathian Grey +

Hum,
I had exactly the same problem on my Discovery. Took it in for servicing, had to change the front discs as they were warped (600 pounds). I thought this would be covered under warranty, but alas no. Since I did not buy original rims for the winter tires (mistake) there is a plastic spacer thing that is attached to the rims that I regrettably forgot to remove when putting on the summer wheels (it is almost invisible). So.. no warranty.
Anyway, I would have the front discs looked at, as the problem is only bound to get worse.
Best regards
Jens

new D3 front discs are less than £100, and dead easy to change. I had brake shake when using some brand new, but aftermarket (non genuine) discs. Got some genuine ones from TLO, sorted.

DSL,
Depends how heavy footed you are?
The discs can warp easily if they are already hot and you do an emergency brake!!!
Best to always go for good quality disc and pads because of this!!!
Good luck

DSL, this sounds like the problem i was having a while back - i would get quite violent vibration suddenly appear and then dissapear just as quickly - i cleaned the EPB, replace rear pads and discs and havnt had the problem since - my vibration was felt through the SW but could be heard from the back of the car and everything in the boot started to rattle.Duncan

DSL, if its the rear discs you are after and need one (1) - i have a used one that has only done about 5,000 miles - i replaced both of mine recently as one of them was scorred.
they are quite cheap as a pair though - i think i paid £40ish for a set of Britpart discsDuncan

Cheers DD passing your was after Nov Countryman course, will see what TFC diagnoses when I can get it too him, one disc might have warped with the EPB issue on way to Tunisia.
Cornishboy, I tend to drive like a grandad and know not to sit with foot on the brakes after stopstart driving or heavy braking as disk in contact with pads cools at different rate from rest. Disk was getting pretty hot with binding EPB.
Also got problem with rear parking sensors but have a solution for that, pull the fuse!!!

Just a general word of warning regarding brakes - it's not recommended to change any single item on an "axle", discs and pads should be changed in "axle" sets - i.e. do both discs or all 4 pads at the same time.
If you don't you'll to end up with different braking efforts at either end of the "axle", particularly if you have a mix of part specifications (e.g. from different manufacturers).
It'd be ok in a "get you home" emergency, but brakes are absolutely vital, and you shouldn't cut corners when working on them 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

Dunc - it was front Britpart discs that gave mine the shakes - stick to genuine if you can.
