I bought a brand new May 2006 V8 HSE with 19" Pirelli Scorpions tyres. From day one, I could feel a vibration coming through the steering wheel, more noticeable in 2nd & 3rd gear between 2.5 and 3 thousand revs. After 3 thousand revs, the vibration disappears completely. The car has done 5000 km and it seems to get worse with time! I have checked the tyre wear, dings on the rims ect. but everything seems OK. I am sure that it is not a tyre balancing problem - the steering wheel does not shake in your hands, but rather a vibration coming up from the drive train. A friend has suggested that they should check steering angle sensor calibration and recalibrate via WDS. Any comments since appart from the above, it is a lovely very capeable 4X4.

Did you get to the bottom of this with the dealer - mine is doing similar things at 2-3k - vibration rather than judder. Worse when engine is cold. Dealer has no idea so help would be appreciated.

I have a brand new V8 SE with 300km on the clock. I noticed a mild vibration briefly at about 100kph when first on the freeway. i thought it was a balancing issue (until I read this), but it seems to have significantly diminished and is bearly noticeable. Here's holding thumbs it goes away forever.

Dealer looked into this - was given print outs from this site about the issue. They checked the car and confirmed the vibration. Nothing found wrong (PS pump, steering bits etc) and phoned LR technical who told them to take some other cars out for a drive! So they took out a new Disco and a used 1yr old and found the same issues. When LRT were phoned back, they advised that it must be a 'characteristic' since they all do it
However, if they get lots of reports they might look into it more.......
So get reporting.......

There is a slight vibration sensation at certain revs/throttle loads, but it not something I have ever flagged as a fault, and mine has always done it. It seems to do it less now the mileage is getting higher (nearly 80k now).
I think it is probably the harmonics of the vehicle, which as it slowly beds in, change slightly. These vibes may come and go I suspect.
Mine is an auto, I wonder if any manual vehicles exhibit the characteristic?

I had the same problem between 70-90km/h. LR found that the camber bolts had been stripped! This was a problem reported on 300km's and they only sorted it out on 8000km's. Steering is now smooth and 'tight'. However do have a strange tyre noise now on smooth surfaces. I suspect that the tyres have been damaged from being driven 'unbalanced'.
