I have what feels like vibration through the steering wheel on my 7 seat. Just looking at LR's technical info site and came across the following
Land Rover - Vibration and Steering Wheel Shimmy
To subscribe to view this document click here
Reference: LRA204-001 (1) Folder: 204 - Suspension Systems
Any ideas what the above pertains to??
I have had the tracking checked and adjusted as well as all wheels balanced by a very reputable tyre company in the local area but no improvement.
Has anybody else experienced this, or is having this and know of what to tell the dealer. Car is booked in 2 weeks for the dreaded airbag light so i might as well get them to look at this at the same time. The car has had the lower steering column replaced due to steering knock a few months ago. All ideas gratefully received.

Hi Dazadd - are there any wear signs on the tyres as a result (I ask because of the odd "perishing" effect I have on the outside of 1 front tyre), and at what speeds does the vibration occur?

No obvious signs of uneven tire wear. Vibration is noticable at most speeds but mainly at dual carriageway / motorway driving speeds.

the bulletin refers to incorrect balancing of wheels and tyres
A customer may report a concern of vibration or steering wheel shimmy while driving.
Cause: Incorrect installation/balancing of road wheel & tire assemblies.
Action: Should a customer express concern regarding the above, refer to the Service Information detailed in this Bulletin. This bulletin also contains information regarding all aspects of work relating to road wheels and tires.
however steering wheel vibration, almost humming is a feature of almost all D3's to a certain extent from idle up to about 1200 rpm - why? it just does!!

vibration = a feature? youre definitely a dealer or LR person in disguise
Mine has never had vibration issues and has been smooth as anything until dealer swapped tyres.... hoping my vibration issue is down to balancing which should be fixed today.
If there is vibration - I.e. if you release the wheel it wobbles from side to side that is NOT normal for the D3 and persevere with getting it fixed. 2004 TDV6 HSE Auto Zambezi Silver

Check the power steering fluid is topped up and not leaking. Mine vibrated a lot at first because the PAS fluid was constantly leaking and therefore low. Had the reservoir replaced and it's never done it since. No longer a D3 owner but still subscribed to multiple threads!

perhaps feature was the wrong choice of word - its a piece of bad design on the D3 - is that better!!
Agree though that wobbling wheels are definitely not a good thing and that needs to be resolved.
I'm no dealer or LR employee - just trying to help

If the wheels have been swapped, it's possible that you have a distorted rim, this wouldn't be noticable on the rear but would on the front...

I'm not an expert, but for what it's worth, the steering on my Disco certainly doesn't vibrate, wobble or "hum", whatever Land Rover Tech may say. I have however driven lots of vehicles that do!! Arctic Frost TDV6 5-seat

(Yes, it's an odd spec - but I like it!)

Neither am I... also for what it's worth - neither does mine, whether the MT/Rs or the Scorpion Zero's are fitted... have I got a fault?
