Sticky Steering wheel

Just bought a 2008 D3 XS in Black / Black leather. It is in very good condition and has done only 15,500 miles, everything looks like new except the steering wheel which is sticky and quite warn. I can't work out what's gone on? Can't think the steering wheel would be like this after just 2-years... Any thoughts?

known fault I am afraid, Being a 2008 it should get changed I would think. Did you get it from a LR Dealer?, if not theres a better one listed now

Nice soft Leather one Mr. Green , much more of an improovement to the grained version, or if you are feeling the vibe, go for the HEATED version, which this one is

Both available from TLO, the parts man extrodinaire

It's a known fault. LR will replace under warranty - head into your nearest dealer...

I dream of Kylie Minogue when I stroke my leather stering wheel...

It is really worth doing and an easy one hour project if you need to replacxe it yourself.

Ahh OK Thanks guys, so I haven't got a clocked motor hopefully! No chance of firing the airbag chaning the steering wheels then?

Not enough info to tell if it's clocked. And, yes, every chance unless you know what you're doing.... Thumbs Up

Wait for the D3 to go to sleep before attempting.....That is the Red Park Brake light goes out on the dash and that the SatNav screen goes blank after the Landrover badge disappears. Then you will be okay

Hey Mac, this looks interesting... The new steering wheel looks quite thick at the bottom though?

When the warranty expires I guess. 3 years? It's probably also covered on the LR Approved Used (but not Select)

Before you spend any money........

If the car has been driven by a lady or a man who "moisturises", the wheel may just have a residue of accumulated hand cream. This is quite unpleasant but harmless and easy to remove.

Here is a good thread by G6WLX that explains how:

Good luck.
