Sticky steering wheel and warranty |
|
I have just bought a 2005 HSE with 40,000 miles, and now discovered that on hot days the steering wheel oozes a black sticky mess that is potentially dangerous and not at all pleasant. I have an extended warranty, but LR have told me this is not covered. They claim that hand creme or aftershave has reacted, but I struggle to see how everyday cosmetics can be a valid reason for their disinterest. How on earth does Jordan cope in her Range Rover I wonder? I'm told that a new wheel is £500, so I would be very grateful if anyone has a fix for this, or indeed if there has been a known history with previous warranty replacements. many thanks in anticipation

A very common issue and loads of us have had to replace wheels. Not under warranty for me so paid Nick (TLO) for a new rim, albeit before the nice new version came out.

Had mine changed when it was under the extended warranty
Common problem
Have a base version one without the stickyness if you don't have any luck with the dealer

Tawny...How old was yours when you had it replaced? LR customer services are quite adamant that it's not covered, and delightfully told me that they wouldn't change it even if it was cracked. Is there a trick for making them feel obliged?

Matt
Mine was out of the 3yr manufacturer warranty and on LR select warranty.
Mentioned it to the dealer along with a sagging drivers seat and they had no problem in changing. Dealer now closed down though

Had the steering wheel replaced for the new smooth leather version under LR extended warranty when my previous D3 was approximately 5 years old and had done around 21k miles. Dealer quoted me about £180 to replace it but asked if I had LR Extended warranty as this would cover it.
