Stopping the horn beeping when locking with a door open

I connect my optimate up each time I park, and as I park very close to a wall on the passenger side I don't like to push the bonnet all the way down as the lever is then difficult to get to when I need to unplug the charger next time I drive.

Is there any way of stopping the horn sounding when I try to lock the car with the bonnet open? I sometimes come in late at night and I'm not a fan of the horn going off at that time of night!

Or do I just need to bridge the connection/ unplug the bonnet switch?

Thanks Smile

Have you got trailer electrics?

If so, connect the charger via the 12S socket. Pin 4 is a permanent +12V with pin 3 as the return. Then your vehicle can be fully locked and alarmed while you charge.

Pull the connector of the bonnet switch and join the wires, done.
Why do you need to charge it every time you park ?

I do have trailer electrics, but not keen on running a longer cable round to the back and I can't park in reverse because the wall stops me getting out Rolling Eyes

Pete, I'll do that. Only drive it once a week really but the battery is on its way out so I'm trying to keep it topped up!

+1 for the trailer socket approach. Also not sure about what an Optimate does. If it's the same principal as a C-Tek (which de-sulphates) then sounds like your diagnosis on the battery is spot on. Those RR TDV8 batteries on the bay of evil seem like good value at 50 ish quid. Just a thought.

re the long cable, can you not run one along the bottom of the wall or something?

As Pete said, pull the bonnet sensor plug out (located under offside catch) and bridge the terminals with a paperclip, tape up and bingo... no horn with bonnet open

Yeh an optimate is the same (but cheaper) than a C-Tek, I bought it for when my Evo was parked up all the time and I got sick of jump-starting it!

New battery is on the list of things to buy and get sorted!

Hadn't thought of running a cable down the wall, might be something to do this week!
