No such thing as a free lunch. They want the business when you lunch your car.

Sorry chaps, it is not about ambulance chasing, it is quite simply business. You crash your car, or have it crashed into, the first thing you do is phone your insurance company and inform them, they then either have you take it to their approver repairer if it is driveable, or they arrange for it to be collected and taken to their approved repairer.

The approved repairer, driven by the cost cutting of the insurer will use non pattern parts, as they are cheaper, and hey presto your anti corrosion warranty is gone, and LR have lost out on the supply of new parts.

If you phone the LR helpline, they will use genuine parts, it will be perfect when returned to you and the insurers still have to pay, as you, the insured, are legally allowed to specify who repairs your car.

Insurers are aware of this and although they resist it at every turn, the ombudsman will invariably rule in the insured persons favour, all that the insurers can argue about is scope of works.

Before you ask, I have a business that has historically been shafted by the insurance companies over costs and scoping, but now thanks to a little reading on the Ombudsman website I too have seen the light.

Its still ambulance chasing I've seen the stupid bills come in to our legal team from programmes like this, Yes I'd want and insist on genuine parts, but from what i've seen of my dealers approved bodyshop i'll make my own choices where the car is repaired, and yes you can insist on where your car is repaired if you use the right words (I agree with you there)

Accident Aftercare

I can assure you it is not ambulance chasing - It is trying to make things easier for you the owners. If you have a non-fault accident you do not have to notify your insurance the dealer will contact the 3rd party insurer direct and deal with them directly. Your vehicl ewillbe collected and a like for like replacement vehicle supplied. You will nothave to pay any insurance excess and have to wait months to get back. It is a system designed to take the inconvenience and pain out of having an accident that is not your fault. Similar if it is your fault only you do have to notify your insurance. Thumbs Up

Any one who has worked in the insurance game knows that it's time to rub your hands together when a non-fault accident happens. All involved can charge whatever rate they want (Unless they have signed up to the ABI GTA). I have a claim at the moment which I'm dealing with where my policy holder hit the back of a Porche. I would normally be able to get the car fixed (I have to use genuine parts by the way) and on its way within a week. I would arrange car hire for a car within the same group at £100 per day. The ABI GTA calls for £230 a day but on this occasion I'm being charged £454 per day! This is whats known as credit hire. The repair took 35.7 hours of labour which I'm reliably informed is 12 days. But I'm being charged for 28 days hire. All in I'm being charged £3,500 for repairs and £14,000 for hire. Now you must be thinking that hitting a Porche, you have to expect a big bill, but if I had been in control of the claim it would have cost £4,000 and you wouldn't know the difference because there wouldn't be one!
So if £13,500 more cost to insurance companies makes it more convenient, you surely won't mind the hike in premium then will you?

I cannot speak about other repairers unfortunatley but I can say as you might have gathered I do work for a Main Dealer and we are members of most of the professional bodies including the ABI etc. As a responsible repairer we have to justify the time of repairs and car hire. Ie if a job was 20 hours this would equate to 5 days and most if not all bodyshops work on a basis of 4hours per day per car. You also have to take into accoutn parts ordering, all Credit repair parts have to ordered on a VOR (vehicle off road) basis to help minimise costs. Taking the example of 20 hours - 5 day repair, if would be acceptable to allow 8 days car hire only and no more. This takes into account parts ordering plus any extra repairs that may be needed and noted once the vehicle was stripped. If as posted earlier there has been a charge for 28 car hire I wold seriously dispute this and request a break down of timings from when the vehicle went in, estimated, into MET, PANEL and PAINT plus parts ordering dates and when received. If the 28 days cannot be backed up to have a just cause to refuse payment. We as a Land Rover approved repairer have an hourly rate fo £40 an hour for body repairs which is negotiable with the Insurance companies. Parts are also normally discounted and are all genuine Land Rover parts, this also is the same for all the Franchises in our group be it Bentley, Maserati, Jaguar, Dodge etc.
It is the minor few companies out there that do gove the rest of us and companies like Accident Exchange a bad name. I can assure you we are not all the same. With regards to hire costs, take a Top of range Range Rover HSE Vogue the daily hire cost on this vehicle would be £130 if work carried out on a credit repair basis or otherwise as agreed with all major insurance companies. If you do some research there was a huge case quite a few years ago which involved HELPHIRE another non-fault accident specialist this was when rates etc were agreed by all of the insurance companies and time scales for repairs / hours per day etc also looked at and also agreed.

Is this the same as I found on my new Disco, as a license disk holder, with a member ship card for SVS (Specialist Vehicle Solutions)?

By the way where do you get the LRA card, as I don't find this anywhere? I filled out a card which I posted to Land Rover, do they send it later?

Charles Hursts

As a dealer Charles Hursts are very professional, compared to a few of the others I have had to deal with (due to being in that locallity. They are one of the big two in northern Ireland & represent a lot of makes (including Chrysler/JEEP + a lot of prestige makes.
They arent part of a group, they are a "group sized" operation for N. Ireland. My las three Discos have been bought there & I can only say the deals have been the best with all the trimmings. I dont think they will be doing anything dodgy.
 BREXIT - done properly.
