STT tread block damage - opinions sought...

Question for some tyre experts...

Was shifting my STT's to the garden shed (no more need for them until September at the earliest... Sad ) when I noticed a tread block was missing...

There are also a few cuts in parts of this tyre and one other - but only in the trade block and all look to be quite superficial.

The missing block does't look to have been taken off right down the the main tyre. In fact I have a spare STT which has about the same amount of tread depth as this missing piece.

But - is this tyre still okay...? (please say yes...)
The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

Club "yes, I too have had the EGR's replaced..."
Club "yes, I too have had the compressor replaced..."
Club "yes, I too once had the car at the dealer for a couple of weeks nearly 4 weeks over 4 weeks...5 weeks"
Club "yes, I too have had EPB failure..."
Club "yes, I too get mysterious bings and bongs..."

Should be fine, if it was me I'd not have an isssue with it. Saying that in a totally non expert capacity, other more experienced capacities are available.

It might just make the ride a bit bumpier though!!! Shocked

Hi JF,

Tyre professionals measure the depth of the cut and go from there.
If the cut goes as deep as the metal cords inside, the tyre is finished. The metal can become corroded, the cords will loose their strength and you run a great risk of an exploding tyre.

Don't worry about the missing block, looks like it was caused by a sharp rock or maybe a piece of metal. The missing part will at most give you less grip.

I'd be more worried about the cuts and want to measure its depth.

regards,

Wiljo
