Exactly! So Catweasel, your knowledge is still safe. I think you're getting a little confused here as it was not my knowledge nor concern for that knowledge (but yours) I was merely highlighting the comedy of your "dont tell anyone but let me do it cryptically" approach and you seem to have done an about face on your own post. keep up the comedy, the gigggle is much appreciated

Managed to work it out for myself without the cryptic comments...
Off and soaked in WD40 it is now as good as new, one key is beyond repair but as the other is brand new cutting a new one is not a problem.

Can't even get the key into the lock on mine ...... So I leave it on as it has reshaped a couple of BMW front no plates nicely when they fail to stop!!

Removable towbar - what is ALL the fuss about
fitting/removing - keep it clean and properly lubricated, then it will give you no problems whatsoever
Theft prevention is REALLY simple, DON'T leave it on the vehicle when you're not using it, or leaving the vehicle unattended

The clue is in the title it was a fixed towbar..... hence the start of this post....
The tip should be - "even those with a fixed towbar should lubricate it regularly"

Resurrecting an old thread rather than start a new one.
I have a RR SPort that I bought at Xmas.
It came with the removable tow bar in the boot and I am looking at using it now bit the key appears to be stuck in the tow bar.
First question:
1) How can I remove the key from the lock ? I have tried WD40 and oil but no luck.
The key turns the lock fine but in the unlock position, I can's seem to raise and turn the green thing (don't know what to call it) when the tow bar is off the car. I am worried about fitting it to the car and then not being able to remove it.
Second question:
2) Does that only lift and turn when the tow bar is on the car or can you lift and turn when the tow bar is not fitted ?
Thanks

Can someone also PM me the part number and instructions for replacing the lock.
As I can't get the key out I think my best course of action may be to just replace the lock and avoid any issues whilst on the road.
Thanks

Think you can only remove the key once the bar is securely fixed to the car, but could be wrong. Displaced Yorkshireman.

Got mine off by wd40 gently tapping lock face with flat hammer and after a few days of this it finally succumbed. Now keep it off unless I'm actually using it Pot Noodle Challenge Winner 2011

DD is correct. The key stays in the lock when the towbar is removed from the vehicle. The Bearded Dragon

Sorry to drag up an old thread....... |
|
.....but I am also suffering from tow bar woes. One bent key indicated it was seized already. I tried the WD40 soaking treatment and only got as far as getting the good key all the way into the lock.
I have removed the lock but I am not able to release the tow bar by mimicking the same motions as per the instructions (pull out and turn counter clockwise until click heard).
My question is - do I have to buy and fit another lock to get the tow bar released? I ask because I don't want or need the tow bar, I just want it off so would rather not have to buy a new lock if possible.
Can anybody help please?
Cheers,
Darren
