| Stuck tow bar - not so removeable - advice required |

Having recently bought my Disco I have decided to remove the fixed towbar pending buying/swapping for a removeable one.
Well the car is 5 years old, and I dont think its been off let alone lubricated.
I have managed to open the key slider and can now insert the key - I cant turn it clockwise as the maual says, but I can turn the green knob anticlockwise and expose the red band. It therefore looks as though the lock is rusted on. I have read that there is a way to remove them, could somebody message me the method - ideally one that lets me get it off and lubricate it up rather than destroying it!

Hopefully no-one will be telling you how to remove without the key as that is the method used to steal towbars.
However, if you are able to rotate the key you should be able to pull out the green handle before you turn it. If it does not work, turn it back, lock, and remove key to start again. You have to go all the way back. That often does it.
Also, when it does drops out, it will land on your foot. A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Stay Alive - KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE.

The problem is I can put the key in but trying to turn it is bending the key, one is bent already and I am trying to keep the other "pristine" so I can use it in the future.

The other thing that I can say on an open forum is that a new lock with two keys is about £12 from a dealer. It comes with the secret instructions. A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. The key for my tow bar broke off in the lock. The handle turns and releass so I have just been using it like that. Here in North America an aftermarket hitch maker (CURT) makes a good product that works without all the fancy schmancy LR tricks. The hitch is bolted to the frame rails , sits higher so departure angle is not seriously affected although a larger drop will be required.
Cheaper too.

Picked up a new lock from my local dealer, it was indeed £12, but no secret instructions !  I started off with nothing and Ive still got most of it left.

If you haven't already, it's worth a thorough spraying with WD40 and leaving for a while before trying again. I only mention as you didn't say you had tried.
Often solves this type of prob so long as ita not completely corroded.

The lock and all the bolts got that when I started this morning, its still not playing, if by the weekend it hasn't released then I will drill it out and buy a new one..... just trying to avoid being so destructive!

Having had our towbar nicked already I say you might as well let people know how to remove them (by pm) as the scumbags who are nicking them are obviously buying the lock kits from LR anyway.
£12 for a new lock, knick a towbar, flog on ebay for £150.
I dont think they are going to be sitting there crying that the info is not being displayed on here.

Don't forget they can also flog whatever might be attached to the towball at the time - caravan, trailer, trailer load, etc.
