Sump plug ID Help please

Hi
Probably a ridiculous question but can somebody please confirm this is the sump plug on my D4? Just want to confirm before I undo & drop the oil!
Unusual for a sump plug to be side mounted so its got me twitchy!
Definitely buying a suction pump for next time, had a nightmare with the undertray but thats a different story!!

Cheers

Even better, found this thread & disconnected the suction hose connection as suggested.

A bit worrying the entire oil content relies on that little plastic quick-connect connection! Hope this isn’t going to prove a problem as time goes on!

Don’t make a habit of disconnecting with that so called quick release coupling, they have an habit of leaking, look at the photo in the link, that is weeping and even yours looks rather black. Use the drain plug at the side it’s what it’s for. Thumbs Up
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Fit a drain valve...
less messy for conventional oil changes. Not a fan of the suction method.

To be honest I have not liked the idea of the suction method hence why I went for the sump plug, but after doing this today my mind has been changed for a few reasons:

1 the sump plug is side-mounted & quite raised from the bottom of the sump. I think the reason most people opt for the sump plug option is to remove any sludge. Im not sure this sump plug would do this very effectively.

2 The suction hose port in the sump is actually right at the bottom of the sump. I opted to drain the oil from here as i think it is more effective than the sump plug position.

3 for the reasons above, on this particular model I think suction method would potentially do a better job than draining from the sump plug

I did notice black staining around the suction port and was concerned it might be weeping. I crawled right under and got up close & personal to get a good look, the plug itself was bone dry, as was the sump surrounding it. The staining was just that..... my guess is from previous services. I also had a good look at the underside of the steel undertray...... bone dry & no oil spot stains at all so im quite happy its a good seal....... for now at least!
Next service will be with an oil suction pump!
