Suspension Arms??

Reading through the forum there is lots of talk of people replacing their front lower arms but never see any mention about rear arms - is there a reason for this?? Do the fronts suffer because them are taking weight of engine??

Looking at an 2011 8spd XS which has documented belt change, discs, pads, battery, alternator, inlet manifolds both sides and also front lower arms - I was wondering if the fronts were more prone to failure or if I should be expecting to replace rears in the near future??

Nothing on most recent MoT to suggest any issues but I see it’s a fairly regular topic of conversation.

It will also need a gearbox flush doing, think my local Indy will be Steve Norman - I assume the 8spd is the same in terms of this flush to the 6spd??

On the rear, it's the uppers that suffer. Search for rear uppers - plenty of horror stories on here. ISTR there's a long video on YouTube about a geezer who takes months (only working at weekends) to do the job. Worth a watch and a laugh.

That’s useful to know thank you, arrange you don’t see them mentioned as much as the front - if they are on there way out will there be a noticeable ‘knock’ over uneven surfaces or should I be looking for something else?

Oh something else, the n/S front tyre has worn on the outer edge, is this likely to be a simple alignment issue??

I don't have any experience of having them fail, so not sure what to listen/look out for. I expect most are MOT fails so check the DVLA MOT site and check for previous fails/recent advisories.
Hunter 4 wheel alignment is the Forum recommendation - circa £100

Thank you again, that’s really useful - will replace front two tyres and have a 4 wheel alignment done then I think.

MoT history shows a clean bill of health except silly things like number plate bulb, ineffective windscreen wiper etc. so not unduly worried and stacks of bills for big jobs from the 1 owner it’s had from new. FLRSH until then last one this year which was a LR specialist so it’s all stacking up quite nicely
