Suspension dead... what would you do?
The D3 has been dropping overnight.
Garage says its a new reservoir, new pump and new hoses – £1K
The alternative is fitting springs instead, at £800.
Would I be right in saying springs would cause the car value to drop by a lot? I'm guessing I would lose all the traction settings as well.
What I really want to avoid is fixing it and then more issues surfacing, such as needing new airbags.
I am all for keeping it, but SWMBO is losing her patience. I would guess the value of the car is about £4000 with working air suspension, so would it be worth fixing the air suspension to sell it or just bung some springs on and sell it? Or fix it and keep it? Or break it? What would you do?

I would be getting a second opinion as I find it quite hard to believe that all these items have failed, more likely only one thing needs changing but maybe there not sure which part has failedplease excuse any grammer/punctuation mistakes,i'm thick, thankyou

Their explanation was that the reservoir has a leak.
This has led to the compressor working overtime, hence the need for that to be replaced also.
Not sure about the hoses.

try overhauling you front and rear valve blocks with seal kits from ebay or similar as well checking other bits for leaks
you might as well get compressor overhault kit which is around 50 quid and DIY it if needed
reservoir replacement ? are it air lines connectors so corroded or tank ocndition so bad it need swap?

I would never replace with metal springs, or buy one with metal springs.

No warning lights. It comes back up at startup fine. However it sinks very low, on to the bump stops.
It does have errors going into access mode. Offroad mode is temperamental, sometimes works, but going back into normal mode usually results in it saying error and going into extended mode.

Have you removed the fuse for suspension ECU overnight to see which corner is dropping?
The reason it falls level is because the suspension ECU wakes up and corrects the other corners to match.
Might be blocked valve/pipe leak etc but at least you can narrow it down.
The tank may well be porous (the front end is right in the spray from the front wheel) as well but you should try to identify the corner with the issue.

I will try removing the fuse to see what happens.
I'm in no rush to get it sorted, I just want to avoid spending an arm and a leg unnecessarily!

I am sure someone on here got their air tank welded?
Dont forget the gaarage are going to err on the side of caution and that caution is your wallet, they are not so much doing it to ramp up the price, more so you dont come back in a few weeks time and say ever since you did x, this has now gone wrong and so on.

are you handy with spanners if so I got an almost new res off ebay for £50 new compressor can be got for 300 if you look about neither jobs are particularly bad to do cant see why you would need pipes you might need a couple of voss connectors but as suggested find where the major problem is regarding air leakage and go from thereplease excuse any grammer/punctuation mistakes,i'm thick, thankyou

If it raises ok at startup that must mean the compressor is fine.

OK thanks for the advice everyone.
I am going to have a go at doing the reservoir myself and take it from there.
Is it worth doing replacing the hoses at the same time?

No. Unless you can 100% confirm they are damaged. The pipes are pretty solid and do not break unless trapped and torn with excessive force.Kev
