Chaps,
Far be it for me as a newbie/noob/newbug to tell you old hands what to do, are you aware of programs like AOL instant messenger/MSN messenger/Yahoo/iChat/AdiumX (last 2 are Mac only) that allow text (and vided) chat between users? It's v.quick in operation and won't earn you approbrium from some of the more sensitive members here.

Alex,

Good suggestion, and for all we know this is type of thing is already being used by members of this forum.

It should be said though, that I think in most cases it isn't intentional to drag the thread completely off topic. Whilst I agree that sometimes it does get a bit excessive, I think I personally would prefer to see the banter continue on the Forum for all to see and partipate on, rather than in parrallel in a chat room style medium.

However, if threads are constantly being created that don't relate to the main premise of DISCO3, then I guess Martin will be the one to take the axe to them.

Personally what I would like to see is moderation in all responses (which does I feel happen in the main), whether on Topic or off. Therefore no party involved (including lurkers) is diswaded from being part of this Forum, or from coming forward with comments and input.
