I recently had the suspension / anti roll bar bushes changed prior to going on holiday. Whilst i have been away, I have had a number of suspension faults display on the dash.
The faults are random and follow no pattern. Sometimes I get a suspension fault warning stating the suspension will operate only in normal mode. Sometimes i switch on and it states the suspension is in extended mode and to make sure i clear the obstacle even though there is nothing there. Other times the vehicle works normally and can do for days with no faults or errors at all.
I have noticed when looking at the height display on the centre screen has on occassions shown a red warning indicator on the offside front wheel - it is not doing that at the moment.
i have just been out to confirm things before i submit this post but am more confused than ever now. When raising and lowering the vehicle, it doesn't seem to do what is requested. e.g when i try to raise the vehicle it says raising but appears to lower it - when i select access height it says vehicle is in extended mode.....
This all sounds very expensive. Any views? Porsche 968 Cabrio

sounds like the dealer knocked a height sensor when changing the arb buushes etc which is screwing the system up should not be too expensive to get fixed I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

I have taken it to the local 'specialist' and they took it to somehwere else that had the software to access my system.
The info that came back suggested that there looks to be a leak on the system and that similar faults have been seen on Reange Rovers before. It was therefore recommended that I have the compressor changed.
I suggested that if it was a leak then surely you find the leak - not change the compressor. Particularly as the system was showing a warning for low offside front suspension.... they couldn't comment and said that the recommended course of action was to swap the compressor (£400).
I have taken the vehicle away to give me time to reflect. I am not happy spending £400 on something that may not resolve the problem.
Any more suggestions welcome.... please Porsche 968 Cabrio

I think comparing the D3 to a P 38 shows that the place you took it too does not understand the vehicle.
I think you have a height sensor problem. It might be just a case of disconnecting it and exercising it over it full range a few times to clear any crap on the contacts.
If you had a leak, you would probably be getting 'suspension will raise when system cooled' messages, as the compressor would be working overtime.
The fact that you have an occasional false red indicator on the 4x4 screen points to height sensors also.
I would suggest bite the bullet and get a dealer to look at it, or engage the services of a reliable independent, like 10forcash who could possibly help you for a lot less.
£400 would more than buy you a good diagnostic session, probably resulting in the changing of a 2 bit part.

If the system gets a reading from a height sensor that is within it's normal range, ie. access, to extended, but is not telling the truth, then a code may not be stored for a height sensor fault. You might get a code for height too low, high, or not changing. It really needs to be looked at with the sensor readings being displayed as the car alters height, this would confirm one sensor not displaying the readings as it should.
I would be wary at condemning the compressor unless I had more information.

Ok, latest update and it doesn't sound good now.
Having just raised it and lowered it 3 times on the drive it fires the rear up pretty quick but then the front is raising slowly then i get the message ..... raising slowly i.e. the front has taken more than 12 seconds to raise (more like 30) - the manual says this is because the resevoir is empty. On the 3rd attempt at raising it i got the dreaded 'suspension will raise when system cooled' message.
Also when raising it and lowering it a loud grating noise occurred - like when a starter motor gets stuck engaged. It was so bad i turned the engine off. It hasn't repeated the performance,
so looks like a new compressor. Porsche 968 Cabrio

To follow on this thread, I had the compressor replaced and it is all sorted now. Goes up and down a treat
But I have a couple of queries though:
1. I am still getting from time to time (totally random) 'suspension is in extended mode' when I start the vehicle up. Any ideas?
2. I can hear the compressor running when in the car - I don't remember this with the old compressor - is this the norm?
oh and I have started to get the dreaded EPB screach now Porsche 968 Cabrio

Just a word of caution, the compressor may have worn out due to some other fault on the car, & renewing the compressor just got rid of the symptoms, not the problem, i.e. sensor fault, air leak casuing compressor to run too much.
Did you get the readings looked at at the same time?
Compressor is rubber mounted & quite quiet usually, maybe something touching it or similar, unless you are just aware of the noise now

I don't think it is over working - when i start the engine, the compressor runs for about 30 seconds or so then cuts out. Porsche 968 Cabrio

Just decided to have a closer inspection.... it was not the compressor making the noise, they had not put the plastic cover back correctly and the plastic was vibrating - all is quiet now Porsche 968 Cabrio

Book time 0.7hr.......longer if the bolt holding the lower cover breaks off..as they do, & you need to drill them out & put an insert in.
