DIY air compressor

Has it done the trick? Question
I have a problem with my compressor (its getting a little noisy) the suspension light comes on after a few miles on a regular basis. Firstly I am going to look for any air leaks (and replace faulty parts or Araldite), then I will look at the filters and humidity trap and clear those out if blocked, this may cure it! If it doesn't then its a new compressor!! Kerching£££
Stratstones of Doncaster told me that the Compressor is coded to the ECU !!! Is this true or are they just telling me this so as I don't do the job myself??? I cannot see any electronics involved on the unit itself! Confused
Stratstones quoted my wife £800 for the job of replacing the compressor (vehicles only done 28,000miles since 2006) Neutral

Having spoke to the guys on this forum I am going to buy the repair kit and fit it myself! Should save around £700 as Stratstone would simply replace the entire pump! Ridiculous, no wonder folk don't trust Main dealers !!! Big Cry

Suspension fault

I would just like to thank members of this forum for the advice about the air suspension fault, amber light on and normal hight only message displaying, after being told so many times I need a new compresor Big Cry I took a chance on just changing the air drier cap as there was a hair line cracking between the orange and blue pipe connections, this I did with the compresor still in place took me 40 minutes , and hey presto result! Works great thanks guys.

I did the repair like described by groudiz:

Worked perfectly, and still works fine. Compressor runtime is now shorter than before. Very Happy Thumbs Up

My considerations:
Buying a new compressor, for me, is completely wrong, because it would be coming with exactly the same design error, causing the same failure, getting the same crack in the cap after a short period of time again!

I asume the crack is here for a long period of time but the compressor still is able to build up the necessary pressure and with time the cap is getting little by little more pervious untill the point of insufficient pressure is reached causing the Suspension Fault.

Upon recieving the new cap, despite my overall pleasure, I was a bit disapointed, because there were no new screws coming with it! Maybe this can be changed in future.

Some of my srews were very rusty and one head was destroyed upon removal. We had to weld a nut onto the broken head to reuse the screw. Sad

Suggestion for an uncomplicated fast exchange of the cap:
Have spare scews in reachable distance! Either check them before the replacement (torx - not easy to find) or maybe will be added to the cap in future?

Thanks! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Suspension repair

Hi All,

New on here but by no means a new owner. I am Oxfordshire based and not overly technical. My question is: how straightforward, in the opinion of those who have already carried out the cap replacement, is the repair to a dunce like me?

Be gentle...
