Suspension fault and general poor reliability... Please help
Hi, I'm posting this on behalf of my dad.
He purchased a TDV6 HSE ('05) from a LR dealership back in 07, since owning the car he has had nothing but problems after problems with the car, and now totally hates the car and wishes he never bought it... Anyways..
The main problems he has had with the vehicle is numerous suspension fault and the vehicle wont enter normal height but will enter off-road height and then drop back to access height. When this originally happen he took it back to the dealership, who replaced the reservoir. This appeared to resolve the problem, until another suspension fault was raised, again the dealership took a look and said that they have fixed it (some sensor) the dealership made it clear that they will not keep repairing the vehicle out of warranty. Using the car last week a suspension fault was raised yet again and now my dad is sick of all the problems with the vehicle and doesn't want to take the vehicle to LR in fear of a £££ bill and just to be fobbed off.
Personally I think LR should look at the car and repair the problem FOC as the vehicle has been back twice over the last 15/18 months with this problem.....
can anyone suggest the best way to approach this problem with LR, such as logging a complaint with LR UK? Also I have come across this tech bulletin
Is there anyway of checking that my dads car has had the work associated with the tech bulletin carried out? Could LR UK confirm this?
I just feel the LR are taking the p!ss and my dad doesn't know what is the best direction. This is all on top of spending nearly 3K on engine running problems.
Any help / advice would be greatly appreciated.
Mike.

Thanks for the advice.
My dad went to LR dealership yesterday to which he got told "... well Mr XXXX the vehicle has been OK for at least 12months...I'll ask the sales manager to call you in the morning...."
So, basically that bloke wasn't interested..
I'll have to wait and see what the sales manager had to say...

He could always engage the services of an independant specialist. We have a site sponsor, username 10forcash who has portable diagnostic equipment, and who also knows all the likely problem areas.
With respect to the dealers, they probably don't want to have to spend the time it takes to look for the real underlying cause. An independant will.
I recommend you call on 10forcash's services, he will come to you.

My did use an independent LR specialist to fix a running/engine fault that the LR dealership failed to fix! .... The LR dealership repeatedly kept saying ".... oh just take the vehicle way and see how it goes...." three times the vehicle went back and LR never fixed the fault, so my dad took it to a specialist who did eventually find and fix the fault for a fraction of the price and their customer service was good.
When visiting the LR dealership the other day to report the reoccurring suspension fault my dad was grilled by the LR staff as to why he'd had work carried out by an independent specialist!!!!!!
It appears to me that the LR dealership are just a bunch of thugs and cowboys.
Thanks for the recommendation I'll past it on.
Is there a procedure that can be performed to reset the suspension? Also what would be the correct procedure when changing a wheel? Somebody mentioned about turns the hazard lights on and then turning the ignition on?

If I'm not wrong, the LR dealer has just done something illegal and can be prosecuted for their actions. I've been informed by my various dealers that they have no right in forcing your dad or intimidating your dad to using their services. As long as the D3 has been sent to a LR specialist who use genuine parts etc., they cannot say anything like that.
I suggest you go back to that dealership and warn them about their actions before taking it up with the consumer protection agency. (Or something like that...)

Sounds like the dealer is the problem not LR. Definately speaking to LR CC and explaining that this is an issue that is unresolved from the time the vehicle was under warranty, ask if they can suggest another dealership.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

My Dad had suspension problems with his Range Rover whilst it was under the remaining manufacturers and the subsequent Approved warranty. It must have gone back 4-5 times in total. The dealer sent a report to Land Rover, and Land Rover turned around and said they didn't know what the problem was and we had to carry on using it until the fault was more definate and identifiable. I spoke to Land Rover Customer Care, they rarely phoned me back, were very unhelpful and were generally very uninterested in my problem with the car. I was asking for another years extended warranty FOC due to all of the problems, or for them to pay for some of an extended warranty as a gesture of goodwill and the bloke on the phone said that they never do that and won't start doing it for me. In the end we have now had it fixed by the same dealer on it's last service and it cost us less than £100.
I'm also in the motor trade. It does seem odd as to why the dealership was saying that. The only time they can tie you into using a main dealer is when the car has extended warranty on it as it will be part of the terms and conditions of taking it out. As far as I know you cannot proescute them for what they said (I think!), but it is bad advice. Probably the reason for Land Rove telling your Dad to take the car away and use it is to unforunately let the fault develop so that they can look into it and try and fix it later on. There is nothing worse than when a vehicle comes into us with no fault codes or a sporadic one, at that moment in time there is nothing more that we can do so we have to let the customer try the vehicle and then bring it back.
From an owners point of view, yes I would want Land Rover to pay towards the repair or investigation. From the motor trade point of view, anything that was replaced or investigated under manufacturers warranty doesn't get it's own warranty that runs after the existing warranty has expired. I think you would get further by getting your Dad to speak to the service manager, explaining what has happened, that he is thinking about buying another one from them and what can they do for him to retain him as a customer.

Update...
The dealership has taken a look at the suspension fault whilst getting the front brakes changed... And they have come back saying that there isn't a suspension fault. Typical isn't it, the day my dad took the car to the dealership it works fine, no suspension alarms!
To me this suspension problem sounds like a wire/sensor/software problem.
Does anybody have a link to a workshop manual for the D3? Or is it a case of using GTR?

Rocy,
I had the same problems as your farther, when i first got mine. Dealers did not have a clue to be honest!!
The diagnostic, equipment they used, seemed to send em all over, costing me a small fortune.
However, i was introduced to 10 for cash, forum member, and site sponsor.
Took him all day to find my problem, but he did.
That was three years ago, at the time i thought exactly the same as your dad, what a pile of cr*p.
Now it is the best car i've ever had,and i've had some. Not even thinking about changing now. This is the longest i have ever owned the same car for, four years now!!!!!!
Hope yours will be the same probs as mine was!! such a small job, however finding the simple problem took ages.
Good luck

Hi....
Well after LR looked at the car back in May and saying that there were no faults registered/found the problem has came back a few weeks ago and this time the airbag light comes on as well!!!
My dad(torquecar) has spoken to LR and they are not interested AT ALL! They just want £££££££££
So this basically this leaves us with a few options:
1) Use a recommend specialist such as 10 for cash?
2) Have a look ourselves at various connectors etc...
3) Use a better LR dealership in the North east area.
If we were to take a look ourselves at corroded connectors, wiring etc.... where should we be looking? Under the front wheel arches? drivers/passengers side or both?
