Suspension Knock

I have noticed I am getting a bit of a knocking sound from the front suspension (not like the steering knock) sounds like a ball joint or bush when going 20-30 on a "jiggily" road. I think the dealer replaced a wishbone at the first service although I did not report the problem. Has any one had a similar story?

Sounds suspicously like the steering column issue ....there is a TSB on it ..but I'm on me laptop at the mo so I can't check...I had mine replaced a few months ago.

EDIT

Just actually read your post properly...have you experienced the steering rattle before?

I have signs of this too.

I reported at the service last week (60k) and nothing was found. It is really so faint that I can't pin point it yet. I will let it develop a bit and should be able to find it at next service.

I have had the steering knock and thats been sorted, the new knock feels remote from the steering, it is not bad just not as smooth and refined as it was. Not quite like an old taxi yet!

I have the same problem in my LR3 and the dealer changed the bushings but still the same. I can hear the knock clearly when applying sudden brake also.

It is likely the bushings for the front suspension control arms. Mine let go at 15,000 miles, which was quite shocking, but free under warrenty.

I have this too, been in and had a part replaced but it's getting worse... will report after it's been in again (I did mention the TSB and think they replaced the lower steering column or parts to that effect).

Effect is felt through the wheel over small bumps, occasionally on acceleration and cornering... doesn't feel good and detracts from the usual limo experience. It also doesn't bode well if the dealers cannot get this understood and fixed in one trip.

I also have the toque converter tipping in and throwing you forward into the belts problem, but that is off road, down a steep hill with command shift 1 or 2 engaged and nothing else. Before anyone says engage hill descent I was at Eastnor this weekend and could not mirror this effect on their cars - they agreed it was a fault and one of theirs had it which they had fixed.

Apart from that love the vehicle (oh and why cant the dealer stop the wipers juddering).

Land Rovers have not changed they need TLC (on my 9th car)

Check inner steering ball joint on the right side, jack up the car.
On my TDV6 2005 this was badly worn at 50000 km and on my second TDV6 it is now worn with exessive play and is going to the garage for repair ,and this car has 35000 km on the road.Weekness at this joint.

I know what is causing this!

It is most definitly the rear anti-roll bar mountings. There are some rubber bushes held onto the top of the chassis rails by U clamps and 2 bolts.

The bushes on my car are really shot to pieces. I can get hold of the roll bar and it moves up and down loosely inside the remains of the bush.

To check it out, set the car at off road hieght, get underneath (support on stands to be totally safe) and put your hand up through the wishbone and give the roll (sway) bar a good shove. Any movement will be apparent.

Looks easy to repair. Dealer visit next week I think.
