Its not a problem asking daft questions, we all do it
as long as you stick to the same rolling radius, it doesnt matter about the spare being different.
A 275/45x20 is within 2.5% (which is the rule of thumb used when comparing tyre sizes) of a 255/60x18 or 255/55x19 (the usual D3 tyre sizes), so you can keep your 18" spare and be OK.
A 275/45x20 (if you get one as a spare) will fit in the spare wheel space.

Run 275/45x20 General Grabbers for some months - moved back onto 17's for the rough weather months but only to stop my bling alloys getting knackered - they are the biz for sure and convinced they do give you some pull at the low end when accelerating. First few days of running nearly converted the end of a few saxo's & corsa's such was the increase in acceleration coming out of coming through roundabouts - got used to it quickly tho !!!!
