SWMBO's Transmison "Clunk" |
|
SWMBO's 143k mile D3 auto has developed a "Clunk" which you can feel and appears to come from the rear end when changing up, 1st to 2nd mainly. Seems to only happen when first starting off from cold after the cars been standing all night, you don't seem to notice it quite so much once engine is warm although SWMBO says it does it all the time . A couple of times, this morning included, she's reported a "Transmission Warning" any idea's what might be causing the problem appreciated. I'm sure Geoff did a mega flush last year and put Dr Tranny in On a mission to find the perfect Pork Pie. Just Found it (I think)..(Yes I have)

Bodsy as suggested that I should first check the autobox fluid level as a possible cause whilst under normal circumstances I'd have a go and do this myself as it's an easy enough job, health issues prevent me from doing so at the moment. Anyone know of a good Indy in or around Northampton that won't rip me off for this simple check On a mission to find the perfect Pork Pie. Just Found it (I think)..(Yes I have)

For what it’s worth, I bought a 2005 Disco3 HSE with automatic tranny and 200k on the clock. Had the same clunk when car went up and down gears. Since changing the transmission oil is kind of tricky (saw the sunk, drop the cross member, buy new aluminium kit, etc.) I started by changing the front and rear axle/transmission oils (I used 75W90 GL5 100% synthetic oil from Liqui Moly). It takes an hour without experience. I did it just for maintenance’s sake and the clunk is gone. The tranny works smooth as butter. The difference is amazing and transmission fault is gone. I will obviously do the main transmission filter/oil change, but I recommend doing this as well! It takes 0,6L in the front and 1,5L in the back (give or take). Cheers!
