Working T91, eventually, where do you connect to fans ? |
|
I bought a T91 thinking it would work, then noticed no wbus output. I tried the +12V OUT signal on pin 1 & 2 but didnt work either (earlier FBHs might work, but recent ones are wbus only).
So I bought an oval timer and a relay to use the t91 OUT on the relay to switch the instant flame on oval timer to produce the wbus signal. Only then realised that OUT is a continuous signal and the oval timer needs a transient
So I bought a wbus converter form www.danhag.de and put the OUT signals from oval timer and T91 into the converter which speaks to the FBH. I now have (at a price !) remote and timed functions.
Interestingly the converter can control the FBH at any external temperature irrespective of the car being asleep or awake or even engine running. It does stop once the coolant temperature is > 75C
I want to use the converter output, which has a timed delay of 10 minutes, to switch a relay to control the fan blowers. Where do I need to connect to ? Any pics welcome. Thanks in advance. There's one wheel on my wagon, but i'm still rollin' along, it's the cherokee, they're after me, but I'm singing a happy song

am trying the R16 relay in the engine fuses, works when ignition off for a short time, but after car goes to sleep closing the relay does nothing. There's one wheel on my wagon, but i'm still rollin' along, it's the cherokee, they're after me, but I'm singing a happy song

You are touching on a query that many Disco 3 experts have tried to resolve (and failed IMHO). The D3 is too clever and trying to trick the fans to come on appears more complex than it first appears.
Been electrically minded myself I often thought that a relay that supplied 12V to the blower when required could be simple to operate. However, after using the system for a while I find the instant heat from the blowers soon heats the cabin if the FBH has been running beforehand, Meaning the work involved and bodging in relays under the bonnet isn't really worth it.

Thanks Pete. You're right about the pin number, but the Y-Cable that came with the kit had no wire from pin 2. I tried to add my own wire but it didnt work.
Iain: thanks for the input. I managed to get to the rear blower for the rear air con that I have fitted as the FBH pump circulates here too. The idea was to simply try and activate the blower by applying 12V from a fused battery line. I could only get clicks out of the blower. I think that these blowers use pulsed input from a controller, so a naive relay / current circuit is not going to work anyway. As you say, I can get immediate heat on starting the engine so no real problem.
I guess I could rig something up to turn on a hair dryer There's one wheel on my wagon, but i'm still rollin' along, it's the cherokee, they're after me, but I'm singing a happy song
