Tapetty noise for about 30 seconds after engine start

Hi

My 2007 tdv6 has just start making a tappety noise on the left bank when the car is started.

There has always been a slight rattle until the oil light goes off , which is pretty quick, but there is tappety noise that carries on on the passenger side bank for about 30 seconds or so , after that sounds ok.

I have just changed the oil , i was short of time and it was raining so instead of dropping the sump plu i used an oil pump to suck the oil out through the dipper. One thing I did notice was when I pulled the tube out it did need to be wiggled a bit as it seemed stuck a bit And took a wiggle to come back out.

It was then that I noticed the prolonged rattle ( could be conicidence ? ). So today I changed the oil and filter again. (Oil from same batch) with no difference. It does it whether engine is hot or cold , th longer the engine is offfor the longer it takes to go. I am assuming its a lifter takin time to fill.

I am going to take the sump off tomorrow to make sure the pickup is not blocked.
Assuming its not and the rattle remains doe anyone have much experience with lifter cleaners ? Keep reading good and bad things and unsure what to do next?

Thanks for any help

Cheers

Tim

Have you used a genuine or oem mayle oil filter?

Did you seat the oil filter correctly with the nipple located in the hole in the base then screw the cover on afterwards which is the correct way or pop the new filter into the screw cover first....incorrect way ?

Thanks for the reply

I used a Mann filter , seated filter with nipple in the hole , then screwed on housing
I did also soak the filter in oil first as well

Thanks

Tim

Mann filter ought to be ok but people have been caught out with non genuine or oem filters so may be worth trying that first.

I don't think oiling the paper filter before you install it is an advantage, I'm imagining it trapping air inside!
Although I'm sure at 50 or 60 PSI the air will soon pass.

Mine had similar symptoms. The nylon part of the left cam chain tensioner had broken up. The engine ran okay but once the cam chain had worn the casting a bit it cut into the oil way and I had about 5 seconds of rattle on start up. Most of the bits were in the sump.
