Tar on plastic

This is probably one for jkp, I have tar splashed on the rear plastic arch and sill covers on the near side. What's the best thing to use to get it off? I don't want use anything that is going to make the plastic go flat or leave a white residue.

Thanks,
John

I know a guy who used a Brilo pad to get tar off his paintwork then wondered why it was sratched Rolling Eyes

A for getting tar off bumpers, im not sure if its the best way but i have used a rag dipped in petrol and wiped it carefully off. worked a treat Thumbs Up .

you can also get tar remover from places like halfauds etc., But jkp is the man to give the best advice

If you have an Autosmart distributor near you , then buy some Tardis and that will certainly sort the problem and not leave any residue. I would recommend washing the area over afterwards with your usual car wash just in case though.

Auto Glym do a Tar remover that is ok but it depends on how bad the tar is..

If you cant find an Autosmart distributor then Polished Bliss sell it

Before splashing out for dedicated tar remover I followed Duncan's advice and used a rag dipped in Shell's finest unleaded and tried it on an small area to test. Let it dry thoroughly to check it didn't stain or mark.
Worked a treat. Did the rest of the plastic arch and sill and then gave the vheicle a thorough shampoo.

As good as new.

Thanks guys for the advice.

White Spirit won't effect the plastic, but will shift the tar (not as fast as Shells finest admittedly)
