TDV6 3l cuts out: P0087-00 low fuel rail pressure

Hello everyone.

My land rover: 2012 Discovery 4 TDV6 3.0l SE. 173 000km's. It has had all scheduled maintenance services at the LR dealer.

My problem: The engine cuts out completely when accelerating >110km/h or thereabouts. No warnings on dashboard. No jerking or spluttering - the engine just dies. After coming to a standstill on the side of the road, I reset using the remote control key (press lock button twice then unlock), then start the vehicle and it starts immediately on the first engine crank. No rough idling or jerking. It seems perfectly normal. Then when I pull away and accelerate to > 110km/hr it does it again. The DTC fault code is always P0087-00 low fuel rail pressure.

History: The problem first appeared 2 years ago. I replaced the diesel fuel filter with the genuine LR filter. No more problem until 3 months ago when it did it again so I replaced the fuel filter again and it seemed to be ok. Then 3 weeks ago it did it again but now it does it every time I attempt to accelerate >110km/h or thereabouts. There has been no instance of water in the fuel or dirt in the fuel.

What has been done now:
1. Again replaced diesel fuel filter with genuine LR filter
2. Checked integrity of wiring on harness to be good
3. Replaced the fuel volume control solenoid valve on the high pressure fuel pump (I got a new spare valve from the local Bosch agent). It is identical to the original.
4. Replaced the low pressure fuel pump in the diesel tank
4. Swapped out the right hand side fuel rail complete with pressure sensor with a unit known to be good
5. Swapped out the left hand side fuel rail complete with pressure control valve with a unit known to be good

The problem is still persisting - P0087-00

Now I believe it must be the high pressure fuel pump unit itself.

Can anyone assist? Have I missed something?

Thank you
Peter

Hi yes i did. It was the high pressure fuel pump. I took it to a place that removed the pump without taking the whole body off. I did the cambelts at the same time. They sent the pump to a local diesel expert here in South Africa. The expert replaced all the o rings and seals et al basically gave it a service. Problem was solved after this and for a very reasonable price. Hope this helps.
