I certainly wont ever rebuild one again!
Anyway, sourced genuine 2nd hand crank for £700 with bearings +25 on the mains. Had it crack tested and checked for size for peace of mind and all good so on with the build.
I read somewhere on here that someone mentioned LR do an upgraded bearing set with tabs? Is this true?
Also, I wasn't sure on which way the main bearing with just the single sided thrust washer was meant to face? Tab on the outside facing flywheel I presume?
Can anyone suggest suppliers of rebuild parts? I've been on advanced factors and turner engineering but any other suggestions would be great - oil pump/gasket sets/4 x conrods/piston rings/seals etc
Thanks

I have a complete engine here still sat in the car along with a new gearbox and transfer gearbox available for £750 or take the whole Discovery away for £1000. Never heard engine run as bought as a non runner but must be good for rebuild parts as all parts are present. Chap I bought it from said it just stopped and would not restart. And we are only 30 miles apart and I could deliver for a small cost. PM me for details if of interest.

So getting closer to the end of this nightmare, or at least I hope! Almost finished rebuilding the engine and ready to put back into the car. Its been like a jigsaw puzzle with no picture!
I have a few question for anyone that knows or can help.
With the new donor engine that is going back in the car (RRS 2011) I have been using mainly the parts that came on the donor engine i.e. not using the original egr valves, injectors etc - will this all need coding/configuring to the original car before it all works?
Is it worth blanking off egr valves?
Thanks

Metal shavings
Hi, did you work out the cause for the metal shavings? I also have this and currently unsure which would cause this.

Its probably the crankshaft broken, sometimes its not obviously broken until you strip the engine.
It might still turn with a spanner, and look like its ok until you remove sump and bearing caps.

I suggest you to install on the "new" engine the uprated oil pump from Extra 19,5
