TDV6 oil pressure sensor location

Hi,

I want to measure the oil pressure on my TDV6 to monitor bearing condition, I think people have forgotten Triumph stags (which I have) where monitoring all pressure is a must.

At least this way any impending TDV6 doom time bomb can be managed and controlled through new shell bearings - well hopefully!

So where is the location and is it still the old fashoined thread as fitted to TD5 for example (wnat to fit the Madman off my Disco2)

Also anyone know if big end bearing can be changed with just sump removal in vehicle?

It is a simple pressure switch rather than a pressure sensor and directly feeds the instrument pack warning light.

Thanks Guy's...

Any thoughts on big end bearing replacement in situ?

I've no idea if it is possible to big ends in situ, but my guess would be no.

It's possible to change the big end bearings in most engines by dropping the sump. I can't see why the TDV6 is any different. Main bearings can also be changed on some engines but I don't think this is possible on the TDV6.

Checking oil pressure will give you a rough idea of bearing clearance. However if a bearing has begun to turn, this won't show with a simple pressure test. Wink

I've a theory on bearing failure, particularly the big ends. Say a main bearing has begun to turn, reducing oil flow the bearing. The big end or ends fed by that main obviously gets reduced oil flow. This might not be a major problem at low revs as there is enough oil flow to lube the bearing. However if the engine is revved higher than normal, centrifugal force throws the oil out of the big ends. Rev the engine high enough and the oil supplied by the smaller oil way simply isn't enough to protect the either the main or big end bearings. This is where I believe problem starts.

BYPass Oil Filter

Is this a reasonable place to tap into the pos pressure oil for supplying a bypass filter? if so does anyknow know what fitting size this sensor uses? Also best place to tap in return?

this is the bypass filter kit

Hi!!!
I spent a long time analyzing the problem of a broken crankshaft. And I came to the following: the crankshaft breaks (in 9 out of 10 cases)on the second neck. The oil is fed to the second neck. The rotation of the main bearing is due to a violation of the thermal regime. From practice: most of the cars that were repaired had heavily contaminated cooling radiators! The thermostat (which is located at the bottom) has never been changed by anyone! (although it is not eternal!) Most cases of engine failure occurred after heavy traffic, then a short stop (refueling for example) and the resumption of movement, at which point the engine was cut off. 90% of all breakdowns occur in the summer months. This is my opinion. I think the problem could be solved by installing an additional oil cooling radiator (in the form of a coil), replacing the thermostat (once every 2 years) , and cleaning the radiator once a year. In appearance, radiators are always clean....But if you look under the plastic overlay on top of the radiators (between the air conditioner radiator and the cooling radiator) the picture will be different, there is a lot of dirt!
I apologize for my English!!!
