TDV6 running cool

My temperature gauge seems to be reading a little low (about 1/3 to 1/4 of the way up the scale) and it seems to take forever to get onto scale from cold (maybe 5 - 6 miles on the motorway), I think it is probably the thermostat sticking a little open(unless someone can suggest anything else).

With that in mind I have a couple of questions:

Is there any way of checking that this is the problem without taking the thermostat out?

Where is the thermostat on a D3 (2005 S)?

Thanks for any suggestions or info

It does dound like the stat but it could also be a temp sensor, located in the EGR coolant hoses smack middle of the engine at the front just under the plastic cover.

The stat is located in the hose cluster at the bottom of the radiator to the passanger side of the car, about 4 or 5 pipes connected to it.

The sensor is realy easy to change, personaly id change this first if its not to expencive.
