Headlights upgrade
Anyone know if you can upgrade from fairy lights on a d4 to the more modern drls?

Yep.
I went from halogen to the most recent Xenons with DRL.
Straight swap.
If you have halogens at the moment you need to update the CCF with an IID tool or similar.
If you have Xenons already, I dont think you need to do anything.

Yeah have xenon at the moment, will see how much it costs, no doubt £5-600 a light in which case it won't be happening!

If your talking about the facelift lights, its not just a straight swap. Firstly you will need to change your grille as the pre facelift are different shapes there the lights amd the grille meet. Secondly you will have a big gap under your headlights where they meet the bumper - to lose this you will need to upgrade the bumper too. Thirdly if you want the DRL functions to work you need some wiring. And lastly but most important. On the xenon version - when you use high beam to flash (headlights off) the mechanism moves but the bulbs don't ignite. Again more wiring to get them to start together.

And with that post the idea was sunk. Sounds like too much effort for little reward given they are adaptive hid already, just with single leds instead of the white lines!

mine is a 13 plate, looks almost identical to a newer model, looks like the lights might actually fit but would still need a loom, has anyone done it, got any pics etc?
Shouldn't need a loom as the wiring connectors for the lights are the same. There is a company that now does a filler strip to go between the grille and the bumper to fill the gap so you only need to change the lights and grille.
I'm not sure about the functionality for the DRLs and Main Beam, I have an idea that the Body Control Module already has the functionality present and just needs to be told. I'm going to have a play with the settings if I can borrow some lights.1972 Range Rover Classic 2 door V8

see what you mean now, at first glance looks like a straight swap but can see where they've changed the shape.

In contrast can pre-facelift xenons be fitted to a facelift with xenons, I prefer to see where I'm going at night to looking pretty It can when others can't,

If post facelift lights on a prefacelift car leave a gap, would have thought pre facelift on a post facelift would be too big without changing the bumper as well.
And BTW cf D3 lights the pre facelift D4 lights on high beam are rubbish as most of the high beam extra goes up and nicely illuminated the trees you’re driving under.

Post facelift xenons light up the trees as well but not the road, very disappointed in them, wife's xenons on her Mini are better, probably new bulbs might help, just pleased I don't fo a lot of night driving It can when others can't,

I've updated the D3S's and the H7s, they're a good light now on both dip and main, just lacking distance on dark straight raids in France, hence I added LF170 Hids Altox GSM FBH controller thread

I might have been over thinking it in that case, my logic made sense to me at the time.
Now what was the question?
PS ah you mean main beams? There is a thread on here re that somewhere, will have a mooch.
PPS I’ve upgraded the H7 bulbs, was going to do the D3S bulbs once back from Finland in the summer. May as well “use up” the present bulbs on that 6k jolly, much of which will be 24/7 daylight.
