I used to put mine in sand mode for a particular junction on the way to work that often benefits from a swift entry into the traffic, but one day it 'embarrassed' me and I stopped doing so. Now I stay in normal mode and plant the throttle firmly on the floor about half a second before I want something to happen, and I make a very graceful entry into the traffic. Followed by a massive cloud of black smoke, which I quite like
The 'embarrassment' took the form of having no power at all in sand mode once. I don't know if it was still selecting its special program, or what, but I put it in sand mode, planted the throttle, and absolutely nothing - and I mean absolutely nothing - happend. I didn't move an inch and the engine didn't rise a note.
So these days I just leave well enough alone.

Not quite true. You just get to the limit of the engines power faster.
Low first will rev very high.... but you won't go very fast.
Be interesting to do a standing start with one in Sand mode and one in Normal mode.

I don't want nought to sixty in six seconds, I want nought to the speed of the traffic in less time than it takes the guy to my left to realise I'm taking the five metre gap he's left in front of him
And with my foot glued to the floor, I get that, plus a smoke screen so I don't have to put up with his 'hand signals' in my rear view mirror

rogue wrote:I also think (but i stand to be corrected) that the length of time off road settings are used/speeds etc is captured by the TR module for use by LR in diagnostics i.e. this fault was caused by abnormal use Mr Rogue, as we were able to see you changed TR into sand at 65mph, that'll be £'000's please
I live quite near 75 mile beach, which is actually about 30 miles long. What speed do you think I drive at to get from one end to the other?
