Help.. I have been told that the poor running of my engine is due to Tesco fuel, and to solve the problem I have to pay to have the tank drained (about 2/3rd's full) the fuel filter changed and fill up using Shell or Esso. The car went in for 30K mile service at the end of April, and the fuel filter was replaced during that service. Has anybody else had this problem? As you slide down the banister of life

Tell them to go and  themselves. Supermarket fuel is sometimes not the best, however your car should run fine on it.
This is presuming that the Tesco garage you used does not have a contamination problem with their underground storage tanks. In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Sounds like rubbish to me, unless it was one of the Tesco stations that had bad fuel earlier in the year. But they were all South based as I remember. Tesco also have said they will pay for any damage done by their fuel (if related to that incident).
Can you dealer prove that it was the fuel? There are many posts about which fuel is better, but all fuel in the uK has to reach minimum stds and none of the more commerically used ones are more than 5% bio fuel, which is within LR tolerances.

If you had some of the high silicone content stuff accidently distributed recently your car will probably just stop ! But this was just a petrol contanination not deisel wasnt it ??
i had a chat about fuel with Hunters southampton parts dept-and a random man in a freelander who delivers parts to LR. They rekon supermarket fuel has too many additives and there is a benefit just using a regular pfs like BP /texaco etc. Hunters also rekon that BP advanced deisel (only-not the others)really does improve mpg and performance by about 10% (costs 10% more too) . Dunno if its true but there you are...

Quite a few of us drove to Morocco spend 10 days driving around using their poor quality fuel, and all of us got back apart from 1 D3 and a Defender that needed fuel filter changes. In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Thanks for your comments... I've told them not to drain tank, I'll fill up at non-supermarket stations in future and see how it goes.
I rang Tesco, who said that since the problem they had with unleaded a few months ago they have been testing all their fuel and have had no further problems. As you slide down the banister of life

It was running 'rough' when idling, and as it had just been serviced I took it back to the Service Centre. Also,(don't know if this is related) from time to time, when I turn on the ignition there is no power to the engine, put your foot on the accelerator and it couldn't pull the skin off a custard. Sometimes it would right itself after a few seconds but it was easier to turn off the ignition and start again. This problem seemed to be more frequent after the service.
The Service Centre blamed all supermarket fuel, not just Tesco. I must admit to using Tesco for my Loyalty points!! As you slide down the banister of life

I've done 12.000 miles on Tesco's and it runs great, had the odd tank of BP but no difference at all. (apart from the price). Arctic Frost Discovery 3 TDV6 SE, Active Rear Diff, Adaptive Head Lights, Tow Pack, Ebony Leather, Roof Rails, Mantec Guard. Tasmod Stainless Sill plates. Grabber AT's. Home made mud flaps. Side Steps back on until the next time.

They're talking out of their exhaust pipes.
Take a photo of the BS EN 590 sticker on the tesco fuel pump, and stick it to a photocopy of the LandRover manual stating that the car requires BS EN 590 fuel.
Hand this over to them, then ask them why your car is refusing to run correctly on BS EN 590 when the manual says that it will... Dr. Ian Malcolm:
"Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."
