The D3 is covered by JLR SDD (symptom driven diagnostics).

I’ve seen both “in action” and I think they’re catering to a bit different crowd.

IID is (at least nowadays) the tool of choice if you need to read codes, do some ccf changes, read values, etc. for a casual or a prosumer user the value prop is great. For independent workshops, the same thing I think, although there is then a subscription cost.

SDD does all the JLR approves stuff, lets one query some backend database for outstanding recalls, checklists for potential issues and when displaying codes suggests remedial actions, etc. I think the intent is that it tries to be smart about things and save time. It did seem to suggest most likely causes and ways of verifying those. User experience is the same for all modern JLR vehicles, I believe. Subscription probably costs a bit more than the GAP IID pro subscription.

Only the largest of the indy shops here in the metro area has SDD, the rest have something else (not IID either).

bless u for the very informative reply , many thks Thumbs Up

suppose also it’s like everything if the user at the dealer knows how to decipher the information that the machine is telling them Whistle

must admit never had anything as comprehensive as the iid and been a life saver with sorting out errors along with saving a fortune

seeing it only takes 4 x visits to the dealer for the iid to pay for itself

thks again Thumbs Up

hi DM Thumbs Up

may i ask do u use these kinds of system please

my brother works as a HGV mechanic and has mentioned in the past some of these diagnostic machine can have eye watering costs involved , especially some of the constant updates

assume even in the last 10 x years they’ve moved on in leaps and bounds with the advancement of technology that they now installed in modern vehicles

suppose it will come to the stage where diy work on ur own car with be the thing of the past due to there sheer complexity

I recently bought an Autologic system. To buy outright was ITRO £8,500...

I ended up leasing over 3 years, as it worked out marginally cheaper over the term (tax relief for business) without the huge initial outlay

In addition, there is £1,000 p.a to keep the system up to date, and continue support for module programming etc

So yes, it is very expensive, but in this game, it’s what is needed to stay at the top Thumbs Up

(Not taking anything away from the IID. I used it for nearly 4 years before buying AL, and I still favour it over all the other diagnostic kit for most diag work Thumbs Up )
