In this chuck away world, what’s lasted the test of time?
Purchased in 1995. Used regularly, never even changed its battery, still going strong.

50 years come next month although lockdown was trial of her patience, mind you I do have all the PIN numbers .Once you have defeated the idiots any job is half done. Pity there are so many idiots to defeat.

I have a Panasonic Toughbook CF-52 which is a 15" screen ruggedised laptop.
I seem to recall it was expensive at the time circa £1200 plus VAT. Started out on Windows XP, been through Windows 7 and 8 and now runs just fine on Windows 10.
Its' got to be at least 15 years old and it still runs fine (with an SSD) and is used in my garage for car engine diagnostics amongst a few other jobs (having retired it from business use several years back).
They don't make them like that anymore

Doing some welding the other day, and in my box of grinders I found my very first 4 inch angle grinder and a load of discs, bought approx 34 yearsa go.
Iirc it cost me a tenner, which back then would have bloody expensive to me!
Note that is 4 inch not 4.5 inch which is most common these days.
I bought this when it was 12 months old in 1974 and have owned it ever since.
I'm 80 years old next June & I am being pressed to "declutter" which seems to mean selling my 2 MGs, and other assets which might be difficult to sell for the right money when the time comes.
Suffice it to say that both MGs will probably be sold in the next few months.
It has been agreed that I can keep my D4 & the SL350, and maybe even trade the former in for a new Defender 110
NJSSAm I Gammon or Woke ? - I neither know nor care.

We have a Kenwood food mixer which used to belong to MIL and is probably close to 50 years old and works fine.
Correction - it's nearly 60 years old and has been serviced a few times by a vintage Kenwood specialist in Hythe. Still makes great cakes!

A shame to sell them, but at least the market appears strong so timing is fortuitous perhaps.

One thing I've never been able to kill off despite my best efforts is a Mountain Equipment Lightline jacket my grandad bought me as a gift for a mountaineering course back in 1999. It's been washed a few times but it's still perfectly intact, full of down and fully functional over 20 years later. It's survived winter bivvys, crampons, ice axes and welsh slate.
I'd really like a nice new Rab one but it won't perish I think my grandad is looking down on it making sure he gets his money's worth out of it

Probably time to part with the discs as they have a nasty habit of breaking up when they age, particularly the smaller sized ones. More recent production discs have a use by date stamped on the boss.
10mm mounting size?
