Thoughts/advice please?

I recently privately purchased my first Discovery which came with a large file of receipts and invoices for work carried out during its previous life. The sellers local Indy had carried out all works for the last 40,000 miles including belts and OS inlet manifold. They had noted on the last service soot around the EGR valve and a minor oil leak. Whilst on a short test drive we did stop at the Indy garage and the technician came and checked the car for fault codes and again looked at the oil and soot. He declared it was from a possible hole in the upper NS EGR pipe and the oil visible looking through the os wheel arch was probably coming from the turbo as they wear, especially at this age and mileage. On the 4hrs trip home, the red ‘Restricted Performance’ warning came on. Booked it into my nearby Indy who is very well respected locally and they immediately diagnosed a cracked NS inlet manifold. Gave the go ahead and waited 24hrs for my car back. During this time they kindly looked into the oil leak and established it was coming from the gasket under the OS inlet manifold which had been poorly fitted. This had leaked down over time and covered all the arms and bushings below and was now dripping onto the driveway. Given 6 months and 6000 miles have elapsed since the work was poorly done, do you think the original garage should go some way to sorting out their poor workmanship? Don’t want to start naming names until a proper opportunity and discussion has been had. Love the car so not selling it but now in for another £1000 for something that had already been done so thoughts/constructive suggestions welcomed. Thanks in advance

I would think after 6 months the original garage would not be interested in contributing towards the new repair and it would be very difficult to prove that they didn't carry out the work properly... that's not to say its not worth asking but but that's about as far as you could realistically take it.

It hurts when you are that position (trust me I know) but unfortunately its very much "Caveat Emptor", I would say get the work done at a garage you trust and enjoy the car from now on... Thumbs Up

Others may have a different view...
I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

I agree with nigethecat, however it might be worth asking how long the original garages warranty was. It doesn't matter that you did not pay for it, a warranty covers bad workmanship as well as parts.

Generally, any warranty/guarantee is only applicable to the original purchaser, and doesn't transfer to a new owner
